Ammunition Shelves Bare as U.S. Gun Sales Continue to Soar
August 1st, 2021Via: AP:
The COVID-19 pandemic, coupled with record sales of firearms, has fueled a shortage of ammunition in the United States that’s impacting law enforcement agencies, people seeking personal protection, recreational shooters and hunters — and could deny new gun owners the practice they need to handle their weapons safely.
Manufacturers say they’re producing as much ammunition as they can, but many gun store shelves are empty and prices keep rising. Ammunition imports are way up, but at least one U.S. manufacturer is exporting ammo. All while the pandemic, social unrest and a rise in violent crime have prompted millions to buy guns for protection or to take up shooting for sport.

Tucker Obtains Whistleblower Report on Military Flying Illegal Immigrants
And now…
Via: New York Post:
Leaked audio from inside a problem-plagued federal shelter for migrant children appears to confirm allegations that staffers have sexually abused minors in their custody.
“We have already caught staff with minors inappropriately,” a federal contractor said during a May training session for employees at the Fort Bliss, Texas, holding center, according to audio obtained by NBC News Saturday.
The trainer also alluded to sexual and violent interactions occurring among the facility’s young charges.
“We got teenagers in our shelter. What is happening with these kids when they are teenagers?” the trainer asks. “They’re raging out of control.”
The leaked audio came days after a pair of whistleblowers filed a report alleging that federal officials sought to hush up a severe COVID-19 outbreak at Fort Bliss facility, which has housed up to 5,000 young migrants at a time during this year’s record-breaking border surge.
In the May training session, the contractor instructed a group of holding center trainees to intervene if they see a staffer abusing a child — but did not tell them to report such behavior.

Military-Funded Research Looks for Secret to GPS-Free Navigation in a Bird’s Eye

Military-funded scientists have isolated a protein present in the eye of a migratory bird that may explain how our feathered friends travel vast distances without a map — and how future soldiers might use that ability to fight without GPS.
…
By analyzing the migratory European robin, researchers isolated a protein in the bird’s eye and then tested it to learn that the protein can help a bird detect the Earth’s magnetic field and navigate their migration, according to the release.
“The Stasi Had a Giant Smell Register of Dissidents”
July 29th, 2021Via: DW:
German police have been accused of using Stasi methods after admitting to using “scent profiling” of G8 activists. In an interview, the head of the Stasi museum in Leipzig explains why the issue is so emotive.
Tobias Hollitzer is the head of the Stasi “Runde Ecke” Museum in the eastern German city of Leipzig. A row of sealed jars, each containing a seemingly innocuous yellow dust cloth, forms part of the museum’s permanent exhibition. But these jars were part of the East German secret police’s collection of scent samples used to keep track of dissidents.
Hollitzer talked to DW-WORLD.DE about the Stasi’s collection of people’s smells and what he thinks of law enforcement using the method today.
