The atmosphere of incongruity that pervaded this week’s annual Milken Institute Global Conference was practically palpable.
The gathering of billionaires, hedge fund managers and other financial industry professionals who converged on the Beverly Hilton hotel largely had a particular end in mind: how to increase their alpha, which, not to get too complicated, means improving their investment returns.
But while the 5,000 attendees could go to sessions on the state of capital markets, listen to the chairwoman of the International Monetary Fund and strike up conversations with some of the world’s most savvy investors, it all had to go down with a rather large dose of bitter medicine.
If the barricades have not been erected in the streets, they were told several times over, they could soon be unless there is reform of the American economic system.

We’re working hard to remove groups if they exist primarily to violate our policies or do things that are dangerous.
“Groups that do things that are dangerous.” What exactly does that mean? “Dangerous,” like hurting other people? Or “dangerous,” as in saying things that Mark Zuckerberg doesn’t like or considers bad for business? Two days later, we found out. Facebook released its latest enemies list. Alex Jones, Milo Yiannpoulos, Paul Joseph Watson, Louis Farrakhan, and Laura Loomer were all designated “dangerous individuals” and banned from Facebook and from its subsidiary, Instagram. Alex Jones’s company, Infowars, was banned as well, and described as a “dangerous organization.” How dangerous is Infowars? So dangerous that you can be banned from Facebook just for sharing its content, unless you also denounce it. Think about that for a moment. Mark Zuckerberg isn’t just censoring opinions. He is prescribing which political opinions you’re allowed to hold, which conversations Americans can have about their country. Keep in mind, nobody voted for Mark Zuckerberg. He’s 34 years old. He is completely cut off from reality. He is worth 72 billion dollars. He can single handedly make our first amendment irrelevant.

Robots Edge Closer to Unloading Trucks in Amazon-Era Milestone

As FedEx Corp. and United Parcel Service Inc. beef up automation to keep pace with surging e-commerce and a potential threat from Amazon.com Inc., they’ve been stumped at a crucial stage: loading and unloading trucks.
Robot makers are getting close to solving part of that puzzle.
Siemens AG and Honeywell International Inc. have built machines that pull packages from the back of a tractor-trailer and place them on conveyor belts, whizzing the parcels off for sorting. Making robots that can load trucks is more complicated, although clearing that hurdle isn’t far off.
“The biggest challenge in our world is: Every single package is different in size, shape, weight, color, material,” said Ted Dengel, managing director of operations technology at FedEx’s ground-delivery unit. “It makes it a very tricky problem.”

Christian Persecution ‘At Near Genocide Levels’

The persecution of Christians in parts of the world is at near “genocide” levels, according to a report ordered by Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt.
The review, led by the Bishop of Truro the Right Reverend Philip Mounstephen, estimated that one in three people suffer from religious persecution.
Christians were the most persecuted religious group, it found.
Mr Hunt said he felt that “political correctness” had played a part in the issue not being confronted.
The interim report said the main impact of “genocidal acts against Christians is exodus” and that Christianity faced being “wiped out” from parts of the Middle East.
It warned the religion “is at risk of disappearing” in some parts of the world, pointing to figures which claimed Christians in Palestine represent less than 1.5% of the population, while in Iraq they had fallen from 1.5 million before 2003 to less than 120,000.
“Evidence shows not only the geographic spread of anti-Christian persecution, but also its increasing severity,” the Bishop wrote.

Tesla Inc expects global shortages of nickel, copper and other electric-vehicle battery minerals down the road due to underinvestment in the mining sector, the company’s global supply manager for battery metals told an industry conference on Thursday, according to two sources.

Sarah Maryssael, Tesla’s global supply manager for battery metals, told a closed-door Washington conference of miners, regulators and lawmakers that the automaker sees a shortage of key EV minerals coming, according to the sources.
According to a Tesla spokesman, the comments were industry-specific and referring to the long-term supply challenges that may occur with regards to these metals.

On April 29, 2019, Mr. George Knapp of KLAS-TV in Las Vegas published a story about the DD Form 1910, and released a leaked copy of it attached to the headline, “EXCLUSIVE: I-Team confirms Pentagon did release UFO videos.”

I invite you to read the entire page, but I want to focus on instructions for section 7. It states, in part:
7. RECOMMENDATION OF SUBMITTING OFFICE/ AGENCY. It is of paramount importance to components, as large and complex as those which comprise the Department of Defense, that coordinated and consistent security and policy determinations are made; therefore, Item 7 must be completed by an individual who is a government employee (civilian or military), and possesses the authority to communicate a particular component’s policies and recommendation. Contractors may not sign this form.
I highlighted in red, the most important part of the instruction. Yet, on the DD Form 1910 in question, it’s entirely blank.
