After Five Days of Rioting, Retarded Los Angeles Mayor Declares Emergency, Curfew in Downtown

June 10th, 2025

Via: USA Today:

Mayor Karen Bass issued a curfew for parts of downtown Los Angeles on Tuesday following intense days of protests over immigration enforcement raids that have left crews to clean up the wreckage and seen thousands of National Guard troops sent to the city.

In a news conference, Bass said the curfew will run from 8 p.m. Tuesday to 6 a.m. Wednesday, in a section of downtown where protests have turned into instances of vandalism and looting.

RFK Jr. Removes All Members of CDC Panel Advising U.S. On Vaccines

June 9th, 2025

Hmm.

Via: CNBC:

Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. on Monday said he is retiring all 17 members of a crucial government panel of vaccine advisors.

“A clean sweep is needed to re-establish public confidence in vaccine science,” Kennedy said in an opinion piece in the Wall Street Journal on Monday.

Kennedy is removing all members of the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices, or ACIP, which advises the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and HHS more broadly. The group reviews vaccine data and makes recommendations that determine who is eligible for shots and whether insurers should cover them, among other efforts.

U.S. MARINES DEPLOYING TO LOS ANGELES

June 9th, 2025

Via: CNBC:

About 700 U.S. Marines were being deployed Monday to support the California National Guard to protect federal personnel and property in Los Angeles, NBC News reported, citing two Defense Department officials.

The deployment of the Marines is temporary, to give time for additional National Guard troops to arrive.

Earlier Monday, President Donald Trump said he would support arresting California Gov. Gavin Newsom for purportedly obstructing federal immigration enforcement actions in Los Angeles.

Trump’s comment came shortly before Newsom and state Attorney General Rob Bonta said they would sue Trump and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth for deploying National Guard troops to deal with protests over those enforcement actions.

The suit will ask a judge to rule that Trump’s federalization of the California National Guard was unlawful and to set aside the president’s order.

FAA to Eliminate Floppy Disks Used in Air Traffic Control Systems – Windows 95 Also Being Phased Out

June 9th, 2025

Maybe the FAA can borrow some left over 8-inchers from the U.S. Air Force:

Defense tech news site C4isrnet reports that the Strategic Automated Command and Control System (SACCS)—the communication infrastructure that transmits emergency action messages for nuclear command centers—is ditching the floppy disks. Lieutenant Colonel Jason Rossi, 595th Strategic Communications Squadron commander, told C4isrnet the SACCS is upgrading to a “highly-secure solid state digital storage solution.”

Via: Tom’s Hardware:

The head of the Federal Aviation Administration just outlined an ambitious goal to upgrade the U.S.’s air traffic control (ATC) system and bring it into the 21st century. According to NPR, most ATC towers and other facilities today feel like they’re stuck in the 20th century, with controllers using paper strips and floppy disks to transfer data, while their computers run Windows 95. While this likely saved them from the disastrous CrowdStrike outage that had a massive global impact, their age is a major risk to the nation’s critical infrastructure, with the FAA itself saying that the current state of its hardware is unsustainable.

“The whole idea is to replace the system. No more floppy disks or paper strips,” acting FAA administrator Chris Rocheleau told the House Appropriations Committee last Wednesday. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy also said earlier this week,” This is the most important infrastructure project that we’ve had in this country for decades. Everyone agrees — this is non-partisan. Everyone knows we have to do it.”

U.S. Northern Command Sets Up Task force for Los Angeles Mission

June 9th, 2025

Via: Task and Purpose:

U.S. Northern Command stood up a formal task force on Sunday to coordinate the U.S. military’s deployments into Los Angeles County.

The announcement from the command clarifies several details left vague on Saturday when President Donald Trump and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced they were sending National Guard troops into Los Angeles.

“As USNORTHCOM’s land component command, U.S. Army North stood up Task Force 51, with a two-star general, as the ground command and control element over the Title 10 forces,” NORTHCOM’s announcement said.

NORTHCOM confirmed that roughly 2,000 California National Guard soldiers were under federal control as part of the task force.

NORTHCOM also confirmed that roughly 500 Marines from 2nd Battalion, 7th Marines, based out of the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center in Twentynine Palms, California are “in a prepared to deploy status should they be necessary to augment and support” the federal military mission. Hegseth had previously said on Saturday that 500 Marines from Camp Pendleton were on standby.

Via: Daily Mail:

Los Angeles is under siege as protesters set fire to driverless cars and authorities rain down a hail of rubber bullets on demonstrators as they march against President Donald Trump’s crackdown on illegal migrants.

Horrifying scenes showed Waymo cars erupting into flames and emitting toxic gases as rioters chained themselves to furniture and created blockades to grind Downtown Los Angeles to a complete halt on Sunday night as violence stretched into a third day.

Trump sent in 2,000 National Guard troops and placed 500 Marines on standby, while the LAPD has authorized the ‘use of less lethal munitions’ to regain control of the city.

Update: Heavy Military Presence Seen in Downtown Los Angeles After Days of Immigration Protests

Via: KTLA:

A heavy military presence was seen in downtown Los Angeles early Sunday morning after unrest sparked by ICE raids in the L.A. area and ahead of what is expected to be a third day of protests.

President Donald Trump ordered thousands of National Guard troops to be deployed Saturday night after a raid in Paramount earlier in the day that set off a chain of destructive demonstrations. Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, however, said just after midnight Sunday that the National Guard had not been deployed in the city.

Military personnel began arriving at the Federal Building in downtown around 4 a.m. Sunday to ensure that federal agents are protected. More have been deployed to the Hall of Justice, next to City Hall.

Via: Los Angeles Times:

The Trump administration said it would send 2,000 National Guard troops into Los Angeles after a second day in which protesters confronted immigration agents during raids of local businesses.

The move marks a major escalation in Trump’s crackdown on illegal immigration and came amid concerns from some officials in California.
