Last year, the Government Accountability Office released a report estimating the federal government loses as much as $521 billion a year to fraud. But Miller and other fraud experts believe the number is higher.
Linda Miller: I believe the government is losing between $550 billion and about $750 billion a year. We’re coming up close to the $1 trillion amount– is lost, every year, to fraud.
Cecilia Vega: When most people think of government fraud, I imagine they’re thinking somebody is claiming disability benefits when they’re not actually eligible, somebody collecting food stamps when they’re not actually eligible. Are those the biggest offenders?
Linda Miller: Not at all, not by a long shot. What we’re really talking about is nation-state actors. We’re talking about organized crime rings. We’re talking about using vast amounts of stolen Americans’ identities to monetize them for, you know, criminal activity.
The problem exploded during the pandemic – when the government rushed trillions of dollars into the economy to help struggling Americans.
Applications for relief programs moved online, making it easier for people to access aid, but with few safeguards, scammers, hackers and organized crime rings also cashed in.

Meta Signs Nuclear Power Deal With Constellation To Fuel AI

Nuclear stocks moved higher in premarket trading after Meta Platforms signed a power contract with Constellation Energy for emissions-free nuclear energy from the Clinton Clean Energy Center in Clinton, Illinois.
The parent company of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp announced that it has entered into a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Constellation Energy for 1,121 MW of emissions-free nuclear energy from the Clinton plant, which is expected to begin in 2027 and support its operations in the region.

Western Intelligence agencies have long raised concerns over the potential for adversaries to hide and deploy missile systems inside standard shipping containers, making virtually any cargo ship, truck, or rail car an undetectable covert mobile launch platform.
This past weekend, those fears were officially realized when Ukrainian forces launched a fleet of suicide drones deep inside Russia using shipping containers transported by tractor-trailers — effectively bypassing early warning missile defense systems.
The mobility, deniability, and camouflage of these containers made it a nightmare for Russia, with several long-range bombers at various air bases destroyed by $100 drones with warheads.
“Ukraine just mounted an attack that marks a turning point in the history of warfare Hundreds of drones were pre-deployed and then struck 40+ aircraft 1000+ km inside of Russia >$1B in damage by <$1m of drones Critical infra is no longer safe,” Sequoia partner Shaun Maguire wrote on X.

In Poland’s extraordinarily tight and closely-watched presidential run-off election, a staunch nationalist conservative on Sunday defeated a pro-EU liberal in an outcome that promises economic and geopolitical implications. With 100% of the precincts reporting, conservative historian Karol Nawrocki had 50.9% of the votes, compared to 49.1% for leftist Warsaw Mayor Rafal Trzaskowski, who prematurely declared victory on Sunday evening after the first exit polls showed him at 50.3%.

Russian Strategic Bombers Destroyed In Unprecedented Wide-Scale Drone Attack

Ukraine carried out a massive drone strike at airbases across Russia on Sunday, claiming to have destroyed dozens of aircraft. There are also indications that Russia’s Northern Fleet headquarters, home of Russian nuclear submarines, was attacked as well. Overall, the attack was clearly aimed at Russia’s most prized strategic aerial assets, which cannot be replaced quickly in any manner and doing so at all would be extremely expensive.
“The Security Service of Ukraine is conducting a large-scale special operation to destroy bomber aircraft in the rear of the Russian Federation,” the Ukrainian Armed Forces General Staff stated on Telegram. “SBU drones have hit more than 40 aircraft, including A-50, Tu-95 and Tu-22 M3, causing damage of over $2 billion.”
The operation, codenamed “Web,” targeted four key Russian airbases: Belaya, Diaghilevo, Olenya and Ivanovo, the Kyiv Post reported.
There was no immediate response from Russian officials.
