The Real Reasons Companies Want You on Their App

July 26th, 2025

The answer, in short, is data. A lot of it. And access. A whole lot more of that too.

Think about it this way. What can a website on your browser really get from you? Unless you manually upload your contact information, or there’s a serious security vulnerability, a website’s access to your phone’s deeper functions is quite limited.

Apps, on the other hand, are a different beast entirely. They are designed to integrate much more deeply with your device. When you download an app and want to use a particular feature, you’re often prompted to grant various permissions. And let’s be honest, how many of us meticulously read through every single permission pop-up? Most of the time, we just tap “Allow” to get to what we want to do.

This seemingly small action can grant companies a treasure trove of information and control.

U.S. Birth Rate Hits All-Time Low, CDC Data Shows

In other news: Lower Birth Rate in Women Who Took Covid Vaccinations

Via: CBS:

The fertility rate in the U.S. dropped to an all-time low in 2024 with fewer than 1.6 children being born per woman, federal data released Thursday shows.

The U.S. was once among only a few developed countries with a rate that ensured each generation had enough children to replace itself — about 2.1 kids per woman. But it has been sliding in America for close to two decades as more women are waiting longer to have children or never taking that step at all.

The new statistic is on par with fertility rates in western European countries, according to World Bank data.

Government Grocery Store in Missouri: Empty Shelves, Smell of Rot

July 24th, 2025

Via: ZeroHedge:

One of the dozen or so socialist policy proposals from NYC Democratic mayoral nominee Zohran Mamdani is the creation of government-funded grocery stores.

While the Democratic Party increasingly embraces socialist and Marxist-leaning policies, such as the seizure of private property, this idea of government-funded grocery stores appears disconnected from both fundamental economic realities and historical precedent.

Nowhere is this more evident than in East Kansas City, where a nonprofit operates a grocery store on government land that has become a symbol of failure, plagued by the smell of rot and empty shelves.

Chemotherapy Reactivates Dormant Cancer Cells

July 24th, 2025

Chemotherapy is supposed to kill cancer — not bring it back. But a groundbreaking Cancer Cell study by He et al has revealed that common cancer drugs like doxorubicin and cisplatin can reawaken dormant tumor cells, triggering deadly metastatic relapses — especially in the lungs.

These “sleeping” cancer cells, known as disseminated tumor cells (DTCs), can lie hidden for years before reactivating. This study is the first to directly prove that chemotherapy itself can wake them up.

Daily Mail Claims Bill Clinton Sent 50th Birthday Letter to Jeffrey Epstein

July 22nd, 2025

Via: Daily Mail:

Bill Clinton wrote a ‘warm and gushing’ letter which was included in Jeffrey Epstein’s infamous 50th ‘birthday book’, The Mail on Sunday can reveal.

The former US president was one of hundreds who contributed to a heavy leather-bound, gold-embossed album of letters that Epstein’s ex-lover Ghislaine Maxwell took more than a year to compile leading up to the landmark date.

Mr Clinton’s letter is one page and is embossed with: ‘From the desk of William Jefferson Clinton’ at the top.

Donald Trump is now suing The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) for $10billion (£7.46billion) for a story published last week alleging his contribution to the book was a ‘sexually suggestive’ and ‘bawdy’ letter to Epstein, framed by the outline of a naked woman with Mr Trump’s signature mimicking pubic hair.

Mr Trump has branded the letter a ‘fake’, saying: ‘I don’t draw pictures of women. It’s not my language, it’s not my words.’

Scores of Palestinians were killed in Gaza on Sunday as they mobbed UN trucks in the deadliest incident linked to aid distribution since the beginning of the war.

The UN World Food Programme said its convoy carrying food “encountered massive crowds of hungry civilians which came under gunfire”, soon after it crossed the border from Israel.

At least 93 died at the scene in northern Gaza with dozens more injured, according to the Hamas-run ministry of health.

The Israeli military disputed the death toll but said its troops had fired warning shots towards a crowd of thousands to remove “an immediate threat”.

Scientists Discover Pfizer COVID Jab Linked to Major Eye Damage

July 19th, 2025

Look on the bright side: Maybe they won’t suffer much from the eye damage if they’re dead from turbo cancer.

Via: Daily Mail:

Scientists have discovered that Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine may increase the risk of eye damage, leading to vision loss.

The new study specifically examined how the vaccine affected patients’ corneas, the clear front part of the eye that allows light to enter.

In 64 people, scientists in Turkey measured changes in the cornea’s inner layer, called the endothelium, before taking the first Pfizer dose and two months after receiving the second.

Results revealed that taking both doses of the vaccine led to thicker corneas, fewer endothelial cells in the eye and more variation in size of these specialized cells that form the endothelium.

In the short term, these changes suggest the Pfizer vaccine may temporarily weaken the endothelium, even though patients didn’t suffer clear vision problems during the study.

For people with healthy eyes, these small changes likely won’t affect vision right away.

However, if scientists find that these changes last for years, they could lead to corneal swelling or blurry vision, especially in those with pre-existing eye problems or people who have had a cornea transplant.
