AI Datacenter in Texas Will Have Its Own 1.2GW Gas Power Plant

In November, data center leaders said they expected approximately 30% of all data center sites to use some onsite power as a primary energy source supplemental to the grid by 2030, 2.3 times more than just seven months earlier.
The report noted there were more data center announcements featuring onsite power in 2024 than the previous four years combined.
“We were surprised by the pace of change and the growing expectation that onsite power generation will play a greater role in powering data center projects,” reads the Bloom Energy report.
Data center leaders also expect power availability to get worse.

It will be powered by an on-site, Behind-the-Meter natural gas-fired power plant. CloudBurst has signed a long-term contract with Energy Transfer, LP (NYSE: ET) that will enable the Data Center and power plant to be developed in phases up to a capacity of 1.2GW. The gas pipeline runs through the site and is operated by Energy Transfer’s Oasis Pipeline, LP. It will provide up to 450,000 MMBtu per day of firm natural gas supply.
Construction on the Data Center campus is expected to start in Q2 2025 with completion of the first phase in Q3 of 2026.

75th Anniversary Edition of ‘1984’ Contains Trigger Warning

It what may be one of the great ironies of the last couple of years, the 75th anniversary edition of George Orwell’s classic “1984” comes with a trigger warning in its introduction.
Courtesy of Dolen Perkins-Valdez, who according to her website has “established herself as a pre-eminent chronicler of American historical life” and teaches literature at American University, the intro makes note that “there are no Black characters at all” in the novel.
For a “contemporary reader” such as herself, Perkins-Valdez (pictured) says this gives her “pause.” She also says a “sliver of connection” is difficult with a book that “does not speak much to race and ethnicity.”

President Trump doubled down Wednesday on calls to scrap the nation’s debt ceiling, pressing for bipartisan action to abolish it and finding common ground with Democratic Sen. Elizabeth Warren (Mass.).
“I am very pleased to announce that, after all of these years, I agree with Senator Elizabeth Warren on SOMETHING. The Debt Limit should be entirely scrapped to prevent an Economic catastrophe. It is too devastating to be put in the hands of political people that may want to use it despite the horrendous effect it could have on our Country and, indirectly, even the World. As to Senator Warren’s second statement on the $4 Trillion Dollars, I like that also, but it would have to be done over a period of time, as short as possible. Let’s get together, Republican and Democrat, and DO THIS!” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
He shared Warren’s post on the social platform X from Friday, when she agreed with Trump that the debt limit “should be scrapped” and called for a bipartisan bill to “get rid of it forever.”

Amazon to Test Humanoid Robots for Package Delivery with Rivian Electric Vans

Amazon is about to start testing humanoid robots for package delivery. The goal is for the robots to come out of the Rivian electric delivery vans and bring packages to your door.
Over 20,000 Rivian electric vans are currently used to deliver Amazon packages, and the number is expected to increase to 100,000 by the end of the decade.
For now, humans are driving them and delivering the packages to doors, but humanoid robots may soon handle the latter.
The Information released a new report revealing that Amazon has built a new facility to test humanoid robots in an environment mimicking deliveries in the real world:
As part of the project, Amazon is putting the finishing touches on a “humanoid park,” an indoor obstacle course at one of the company’s San Francisco o?ces where it will soon test such robots, this person said.
The online retailer reportedly has a Rivian electric delivery van on site to test robots as they come in and out of the van, bringing packages to customers’ doors.
“Amazon hopes humanoid robots will be able to hitch a ride in the back of Amazon’s electric Rivian vans and spring out to deliver packages.”
Amazon plans to test several different humanoid robots, but the report only mentions one from China-based Unitree.

For the first time, a drone has beaten human pilots in an international drone racing competition, marking a new milestone in the development of artificial intelligence. On Saturday April 14, 2025, two drone racing events took place simultaneously: The Falcon Cup Finals for human pilots and the A2RL Drone Championship for AI-powered, autonomous drones. As a climax, the best AI drones also competed against the best human pilots. The AI drone developed by TU Delft first won the A2RL Grand Challenge. It then went on to win the knockout tournament against human pilots, beating three former DCL world champions and reaching flight speeds up to 95.8 km/h on the very winding track.

Meta Signs Nuclear Power Deal With Constellation To Fuel AI

Nuclear stocks moved higher in premarket trading after Meta Platforms signed a power contract with Constellation Energy for emissions-free nuclear energy from the Clinton Clean Energy Center in Clinton, Illinois.
The parent company of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp announced that it has entered into a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Constellation Energy for 1,121 MW of emissions-free nuclear energy from the Clinton plant, which is expected to begin in 2027 and support its operations in the region.
