A warship built with steel salvaged from the World Trade Center is set to arrive in New York.

The USS New York is due to sail up the Hudson River as far as Ground Zero, where it will fire a 21-gun salute.

It will be watched by relatives of those killed in the 2001 attacks that destroyed the buildings, along with rescuers and members of the public.

The US Navy is to hold an official commissioning ceremony for the new warship on Saturday.

The New York set off on its maiden voyage from Louisiana, where it was built, nearly three weeks ago.

The bow of the boat contains 7.5 tonnes of melted steel from the fallen buildings.

The ship’s crest includes images of the Twin Towers and features the colours of the city departments that first responded to the terrorist attacks in which nearly 3,000 people died.

I cringe at the utter childishness of this planned act.

Imagine, standing there in the drab fall weather, watching a massive metal boat blasting rounds off into the sky.

    What sick world.

    *frown

Hats off to the people of the United States determined to never forget the utter failure of their government’s Middle Eastern foreign policy as so dramatically demonstrated on 9/11.

Reminds me of the “The Ghosts of Flight 401”.
A Lockheed L-1011 crashed into the Florida Everglades in 1972.
    101 fatalities, 75 lived.
Salvaged aircraft parts where fitted to other Eastern Airlines L-1011s.
The crew where seen haunting the fights and Eastern Air Lines later removed all of the salvaged parts.
    This just feels bad.
Hole, cover with grass, make a park, would be good.

Comments before mine on this topic mirror my utter disgust. Who’s sick mind devised the idea to make a trophy ship out of the 9/11 disaster “waste? Did anyone look at that? I know I didn’t. Too disgusting.
This ship and its existence reminds me of the stories I heard as a child of peoples remains being made into soap and lampshades. Stuff of my nightmares. That people could actually do that kind of thing to other human beings, to this day really sends me over the edge. I’ve stayed away from bar soap most of my life relying on Dr. Bronner’s and other such until just recently.
    No kidding.
I don’t know what the sailing weather will be from Louisiana to NY this week, but I do wish for this ship a Perfect Storm scenario eg George Clooney and company.
    This ship is cursed.
Godspeed to the good sailors who step aboard. Wonder if it won’t be something to “Watch” similar to those doomed by the mysterious flight of nukes over America?
