Mission Accomplished: Iraq Closes Borders and Extends Curfews
February 13th, 2007Via: Guardian:
The Iraqi government today said it would close its borders with Syria and Iran and extend a night curfew in Baghdad as part of its new security plan.
Lieutenant General Abboud Qanbar, the commander leading the latest attempt to curb violence in Baghdad, announced the measures on Iraqi state television.
Gen Qanbar said the border with Iran would be closed for 72 hours. He did not say how long the border with Syria would be closed for, but extended frontiers mean any attempt to seal the borders would be extremely hard to enforce.

Planet Earth to George Bush – do you understand Morse Code? The English language? Spock, Captain Piccard ? anyone out there? do you read our SOS? Can anyone stop these madmen? SOS !!!
There are three (I think) Aircraft carriers in the Persian Gulf? And no one is supposed to blink?
(on CNN I think) the Shrub sayz, “I don’t understand why (all those dumb peoples) anyone thinks the US is TRYING to start a war with IRAN(Q)?” This supposed “leader of the “free” world,” who then goes on to say that all rumors of war with Iran is “all politics?” Give me another story, and paleeze – let it be one like the “Christmas Carol.” You know, where Scrooge gets to see the impact of his past, present and future and “magically” gets his soul scorched
into right thinking. I’m thinking the world needs similar “right action” when it comes to these fugnuggits. Gotto go chip ice off the roadway!

The Marines and Special Forces have at least tried to adapt to the insurgents tactics in Iraq by decentralizing themselves and trying to blend in some. The Regular Army hasn’t done such a good job…
I wonder how the bureaucratic structures of the Airforce and Navy will fare if we goto war against Iran? Considering Iran is mostly mountainous and the previous article about the Navy Admiral going to Centcom.
It also seems Iran has prepared for a Sea/Air war in advance:

Iran ‘makes own warplane’

Anyway. This war was screwed from the beginning, partly because of the borders. As if the notion of trying to spread democracy to a country that has no history of it isn’t bad enough.
