UK on the Brink

May 28th, 2007

I don’t know why they just don’t get on with it.

Via: Guardian:

The home secretary, John Reid, made clear yesterday he is prepared to declare a “state of emergency” to suspend key parts of the human rights convention if the law lords do not overturn a series of judgments that have weakened the anti-terrorist control order regime.

Having lived in London for almost a year (not there anymore thank goodness), I can say that that place is SO Orwellian! Cameras everywhere. No privacy.

I bought some gold while I was there and was told that if I bought more than x amount of gold in a year I would have to give them a copy of my passport which would be given to HM Revenue & Customs if requested. WHAT BULLSHIT! They assured me that HMRC don’t ask for info regarding my gold purchasing habits but come on! Why else would HMRC ask a bullion dealer to keep info on clients spending a certain amount a year on gold/silver? If TSHTF then guess what’ll happen to your gold…

I had a looong conversation with the bullion dealer about this and he sounded so out of touch with reality regarding this. He insisted that there was nothing sinister about it. HAH HAH, yeah sure!

    Welcome to the UK.

…Mr Reid said he was prepared for the first time to take the “nuclear option” of opting out or derogating from article five of the European convention on human rights which guarantees the right to liberty.
