Cryptogon Readers Send Contributions

April 25th, 2009

TB sent $25. ML sent $30. And let’s see, I have one more here: RP sent $750. Woh. Thanks guys.

April earnings were turning out to be down sharply, compared to previous months. I assumed that people were getting hammered with income taxes being due in the U.S., in addition to the financial situation deteriorating by the day for many. But then RP dropped that big one on us!

He wrote that the way he obtains news has completely changed in recent years and he wants to support the people who are doing the heavy lifting. He found Cryptogon a few weeks ago.

I find it fascinating how Cryptogon’s value varies from one individual to another. It’s worth nothing at all to over 99% of people reading. But it’s deeply moving to think that a fraction of one percent of you are keeping the lights on, so to speak, and Becky and me home with Owen, our son, during his first years of life. I hope that it’s possible for thank you to convey an appropriate level of appreciation for such a positive impact on our lives.

RP is right…my belief is that if you really want to understand what’s happening in the world, it’s crucial to 1) be interested in acquiring a taste for finding the more objective truth in our news, and 2) ignore the major media (which is almost entirely a medium for public marketing and consumption), and find the most efficient news-sites on the internet that we sense may be pointing us at a more objective viewpoint.

Of course there’s no end to news-aggregator sites on the web, but you still need to wade through a whole lot of white noise and BS to find the gold nuggets. Sites like Cryptogon.com are like having a private nugget-miner working for you.

And personally, having spent years learning how to fade the noise and find the pattern, I now look at just a handful of sites like this each day, and I feel confident I’m getting the basic essential stories in my various areas of interest. And I can now do that in a fraction of the time I used to spend.

You have earned it. I wish I could send more again, but things are dicey here in financial fanatasy land.
Make sure you let the boy grow up as a carefree kid. It’s better than toys and trappings. Kids make their own toys anyway. Way cool stuff.

Lagavulin, you’re right, there is no perfect news aggregator site, but there are plenty of them out there. I put a full fledged aggregator on my site, and it’s really full of crap most of the time. At least it’s just a subset of my real site. No, I’m not advertising. Keep Kevin going. 🙂

I’m a regular reader here too. Kevin has some good (and sometimes weird) opinions on things. 🙂 The selection of news and his commentaries make this place a good read.

Jburke6000 sums up our current economic environment very nicely. It’s dicey. I used to be able to contribute a bit here and there, and even bought something from Kevin’s eBay moving sale. Now, I’m just happy to be able to pay the bills and afford food. It’s not the good ol’ days any more, when I was making good money, and had some to spare. My donations are to friends and family these days, trying to keep ourselves going. I’m hoping that will get better soon though, and I’ll be able to donate to good causes, like Kevin’s family.

Actually, I’m beginning to reach the point where I find the whole “news” format for data-delivery to be problematic.

Unfortunately, I haven’t yet figured out how to evolve beyond it.

I am too poor to contribute. While many might say that, for me… I farm my own veggies, and fish (perhaps hunt next year) to get by. If I get lucky gold panning this summer, I’ll definitely send some to Kevin.

Anyhow, the reason I chimed in is that the real value of this site seems to be overlooked in the above comments. It’s not the finding of stories… a well crafted feed and filter system can do that… it’s the analysis. I see most of these articles anyway (though not as timely), but I can’t count how many times K’s comments on them have brought it into a different focus. That’s what brings me here.

Two bonuses: Extra graphics stripped out (handy for my archaic modem connection) and farmlet: You had me at ‘food forest’.

i find the value of both cryptogon and farmlet to be extremely high. i cannot emphasise this enough. this value comes into focus more sharply with each passing day, as i become more disillusioned by mainstream and leftish media sources. the prevailing bullshit makes me so angry that i end up shouting expletives at the radio during the news bulletins. and that’s just nz national radio. the commercial stations would be unbearable after a few seconds.

anyway, i plan on making more contributions to cryptogon/farmlet when i can, in the near future.

    For as long as I am here, I will support K & B ( & O ) in the work they do.

Well, it is getting weirder amd weirder out here in the modern wasteland, vaguely familiar, dangerous, yet always foggy. Like one of those horrible sci-fi slasher flicks, in which you have your perceptions keyed up to an unbelievable degree, you’re just able to sense hostile shapes out in the fog yet, sometimes, for a terrifying millisecond something comes into focus … something really, really, really bad. This flu meme, it has gotten me the most wigged out I think I have ever been: I have four children, the eldest 13. He asked me this evening if I thought this emerging epidemic was going to be like the pneumotic plague. Just exactly what would you say ?
