Crash Gordon and the Mysteries of Kingsburg

April 25th, 2009

Derek Swannson, a pen name for a guy with a day job, has been reading Cryptogon for a while and he wanted to send me a copy of his book, Crash Gordon and the Mysteries of Kingsburg. I warned him that I didn’t have time to read it. He sent it anyway.

Well, he actually sent a beautifully printed hardcover version of the book and my curiosity got the better of me. No, I don’t judge books by their covers, but I loved affixing various instrumentation and equipment to my bikes and big wheels when I was a kid. (The Green Machine was my favorite, if you must know.)

Hmm, maybe I’ll just take a peek. I started reading it.

Sure, there are tantalizing themes that will be familiar to Cryptogon readers, but I find myself laughing as I go along with Gordon’s antics. I told Derek that I wasn’t as smart of as sickly as Gordon, but that he definitely resonates with me. If you were a weird kid with weird books and bizarre interests, check this out. If you laugh at, shall we say, inappropriate times during David Lynch films, when other members of the audience are struck dumb and bewildered, you’ll probably appreciate this.

As for all the woowoo, I’ve just started the book, so the only event that has happened—along those lines—is that Gordon has had his ass kicked by the interdimensional, shape shifting Easter Bunny. Yes, we’re just getting under way.

There are sample chapters on the Crash Gordon Books site, if you want a taste of what awaits you in Kingsburg and beyond.
