Police Hunt 40 Monkeys that Escaped from South Carolina Research Facility

A police search is underway after 40 monkeys escaped from a research facility in South Carolina on Wednesday night.
Police in Yemassee, Beaufort County, said the animals escaped from Alpha Genesis, a business that provides “nonhuman primate products and bio-research services,” according to its website.
Traps have been set up and officers are using thermal imaging cameras in an attempt to recapture the animals, police said.
“Residents are strongly advised to keep doors and windows secured to prevent these animals from entering homes,” Yemassee Sheriff’s Department said in a statement. Anyone who finds a monkey should not interact with it but instead call 911, it said.
The company works with monkeys to carry out clinical trials, including on brain disease disorder treatments, and says it has “one of the largest and most comprehensive nonhuman primate facilities, designed specifically for monkeys, in the United States.”
The sheriff’s department didn’t specify the breed of the fugitive primates, but the company’s website says it works with macaque and capuchin monkeys.
It is also not known what trials the escaped monkeys were taking part in, nor whether they were exposed to any diseases. Alpha Genesis did not immediately respond to an overnight request for comment from NBC News.

Widespread Voting Problems Reported in Two Heavily Republican Pennsylvania Counties

Election officials have confirmed widespread problems with voting machines and software on Election Day in two heavily Republican counties in the critical swing state of Pennsylvania.

“The Cambria County Board of Election learned early this morning that a software malfunction in the County’s Electronic Voting System has prevented voters from scanning their ballots,” Cambria County Solicitor Ron Repak said in a statement.

Election officials have filed emergency paperwork seeking to extend the voting time by two hours to 10 p.m. to rectify the issue and ensure all ballots are counted, according to the petition filed in county court.
A court order seeks to extend the voting time to 10 p.m., two hours past the 8 p.m. deadline for the rest of the state, a GOP source told The Post.
Pennsylvania is perhaps the most important swing state in the election, with both Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris campaigning in Cambria’s largest city, Johnstown.
Nathan Anderson, an IT specialist from Johnstown, said he ran into issues at his voting site when he cast his ballot for Trump this morning.
He said a poll worker put his ballot in a lock box until it can be scanned, but Anderson admitted he had reservations about the issue.
“I was able to turn in my ballot, whether or not it gets scanned, I’ll never know to be honest,” he said.

Washington Activates National Guard, Oregon “Standing Ready”, Heading Into Election Day

Washington Governor Jay Inslee is activating the Washington National Guard ahead of election day, according to KING 5, and neighboring state Oregon isn’t far behind.
The action by the governor follows two recent ballot box arsons in Portland and Vancouver, Washington, in late October, which destroyed hundreds of ballots. Officials are still seeking a suspect.
Governor Inslee announced that some National Guard members will assist local law enforcement and the State Patrol, with the exact number yet to be decided.
Homeland Security has warned of potential political violence and threats to election infrastructure ahead of the 2024 General Election. Guard members will be on standby from Monday through Thursday night.
