QE3

September 13th, 2012

Via: CNBC:

The Federal Reserve fulfilled expectations of more stimulus for the faltering economy, taking aim now at driving down mortgage rates.

The Fed said it will buy $40 billion of mortgages per month in an attempt to foster a nascent recovery in the real estate market. The purchases will be open-ended, meaning that they will continue until the Fed is satisfied that economic conditions, primarily in unemployment, improve.

Enacting the third leg of quantitative easing will take the Fed’s money creation past the $3 trillion level since it began the process in 2008.

House Approves Sweeping, Warrantless Electronic Spy Powers

September 13th, 2012

Via: Wired:

The House on Wednesday reauthorized for five years broad electronic eavesdropping powers that legalized and expanded the George W. Bush administration’s warrantless wiretapping program.

The FISA Amendments Act, (.pdf) which is expiring at year’s end, allows the government to electronically eavesdrop on Americans’ phone calls and e-mails without a probable-cause warrant so long as one of the parties to the communication is believed outside the United States. The communications may be intercepted “to acquire foreign intelligence information.”

The government has also interpreted the law to mean that as long as the real target is al-Qaida, the government can wiretap purely domestic e-mails and phone calls without getting a warrant from a judge. That’s according to David Kris, a former top anti-terrorism attorney at the Justice Department.

Dandelion Extract Kills Cancer Cells

This is from February 2012.

Via: Global News:

Dandelion root tea, championed by an elderly leukemia patient, has sparked exciting cancer research at the University of Windsor.

Windsor Regional Hospital oncologist Dr. Caroline Hamm admitted there wasn’t much she could for her chronic myelomonocytic leukemia (CMML) patient after rounds of chemotherapy.

The “little old lady” replied she’d “take care of it herself” with some dandelion root tea, and spread the word to another patient in the waiting room.

To Dr. Hamm’s surprise, the patients’ conditions improved, and one patient is still in remission 3 years after a steady diet of dandelion tea.

These results inspired Dr. Hamm to contact Dr. Siyaram Pandey, professor of biochemistry at the University of Windsor.

“I was very pessimistic,” says Dr. Pandey. “Two people doesn’t mean anything scientifically, but… I was surprised to find that simple aqueous extract of this root had pretty good activity in inducing cell suicide in cancer cells.”

Cell suicide, called apoptosis, is a process taking place in our body all the time. If cells are not needed or have damaged DNA, they effectively commit suicide.

“Cancer cells are the ones who evade this process… become resistant to cell death,” explains Dr. Pandey. His research looks to see if dandelion root extract can ‘remind’ the cancer cells to commit suicide, without killing off the healthy cells.

However, Dr. Pandey’s research suggested the amount of extract obtained from boiling the tea was not sufficient, and so his team started increasing the efficiency of extraction with actual dandelion root obtained from farmers.

“We have increased the potency of the extract,” he explains. “We are excited about it because it is a very simple natural extract, so it’s like you buying the vegetable and cooking it, basically, it is as simple as that, because we are not interfering with any chemicals.”

Preliminary research thus far involved collecting leukemia blood cells from the disposable tissue of nine patients (with their consent). It’s called an ex-vivo study, and took place in a culture dish with the dandelion extract of higher potency described by Dr. Pandey.

“All nine blood samples gave a good response that cancer cells committed suicide,” said Dr. Pandey. “In 48 hours, more than 70 per cent were committing suicide. If those cultures were kept for longer, all of them will die—this is our prediction.”

Dr. Pandey donated his own cells as a “healthy” comparison, and showed there was no toxicity and very few cells dying from the healthy blood sample. He explains they have already studied dandelion extract in animals, and found no apparent toxicity and no tissue malfunction.

Human trials

These findings were so encouraging, they have now applied for clinical approval from Health Canada to begin trials in people, which may take between 6 months to a year. Dr. Pandey says the University of Windsor trial will aim to include 24 patients.

While dandelion extracts have been documented as treatments for leukemia and breast cancer in traditional Native American Medicine and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), Dr. Pandey is investigating other potential areas the extract could work. So far dandelion root extract has been shown to be active against pancreatic cancer cells, colon cancer cells and melanoma (in cultures, not in patients).

In addition to the potential to kill multiple types of cancer cells, dandelion root extract may have an advantage over other chemotherapy treatments in terms of toxicity.

Taxol is one of the most commonly used drugs for chemotherapy with a $5-billion market at present, according to Dr. Pandey. It’s also a natural product coming from the bark of the yew tree, but unlike dandelion root extract, Taxol is very damaging to normal cells.

“Compared to Taxol, this one is 100 times better in terms of toxicity,” says Dr. Pandey. “Taxol is terribly, terribly toxic to normal cells, it is not selective to cancer. That’s why people have very bad immunity, they lose their immunity, lose hair, and all that.”

White House Big Dig Remains A Mystery As Construction Wraps Up

September 13th, 2012

Via: AP:

The White House Big Dig is finally wrapping up, but the Big Reveal is proving to be a pretty big letdown.

After nearly two years and $86 million worth of noisy and disruptive construction, the West Wing has emerged from its visual seclusion remarkably unchanged. And deep underground, whatever has been built there remains shrouded in mystery.

Plus, if you ask what the next phase is in this massive, four-year project, the official answer is “TBD” – to be determined.

More Americans Opting Out of Banking System

September 13th, 2012

Via: Washington Post:

In the aftermath of one of the worst recessions in history, more Americans have limited or no interaction with banks, instead relying on check cashers and payday lenders to manage their finances, according to a new federal report.

Not only are these Americans more vulnerable to high fees and interest rates, but they are also cut off from credit to buy a car or a home or pay for college, the report from the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. said.

Released Wednesday, the study found that 821,000 households opted out of the banking system from 2009 to 2011 and that the so-called unbanked population grew to 8.2 percent of U.S. households.

Cancer: Trying to Understand Why Full THC Hemp Oil Works for Some and Not Others

September 13th, 2012

Warning: No information that appears on Cryptogon should be considered medical advice.

Most Cryptogon readers will be aware of Rick Simpson, his story and his phoenixtears.ca website. If you’re not, you can head over there and get up to speed.

A few weeks ago, actor Tommy Chong went on CNN and announced that he had prostate cancer and that he was using hemp oil in attempt to cure himself.

He posted some initially encouraging tweets:

16 Jul Tommy Chong ?@tommychong

Did I mention I am 99% cancer free? Thanks to my “medication”. Hemp oil
works but you have to believe…..I believe….tc

13 Jul Tommy Chong @tommychong

Got my blood test results back…the hemp oil is working! PSA down to
2…..yes!

But then, on his 12 September 2012 Pot Cast #3 – A Nice Healthy Stream, he stated:

I went on CNN and I announced to the world that I was going to cure it with pot, with hemp oil. And I want to tell you that after three months of using hemp oil, it hasn’t done a god damned thing. In other words, it’s not working. So, back to the drawing board.

Now, check out the Dennis Hill story:

Biochemist Dennis Hill graduated from the University of Houston and did his Graduate Work at Baylor Medical School. Dennis worked as a Cancer Researcher at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. When Dennis was diagnosed with advanced stage prostate cancer, which had metastasized to other parts of his body, he started researching. Since Dennis has a family history of prostate cancer, and he often witnessed ineffective results while working in cancer research, he felt a new approach was in order.

After researching possible alternatives Dennis ran across information about Rick Simpson using cannabis concentrate, which is an extract of the essential oil which is extracted from marijuana and contains cannabinoids. Simpson was using the oil to treat a wide variety of illness, including cancer. The more Dennis researched, the more he understood how cannabis worked on cancer. He has included 2 papers for the review of anyone interested that go into the science of how cannabis kills cancer. He was determined to give it a try, and decided to tell his doctor that he would be using cannabis concentrate alone for his treatment. He did not want to risk more damage to his body from chemo, so he chose to start the cannabis oil regime without any other treatment.

Dennis is educated, with a sound background in science, and a background in the cancer industry. He stated that the Cannabis Oil killed the cancer, and he is now cancer free. He never underwent any of the standard treatment ie chemo, or radiation. He maintained a healthy diet, and exercise as part of his healing and after care. Dennis worked two jobs while he was treating himself, and never experienced any of the side effects typically associated with standard cancer treatments. He administered 1 tiny dose of the cannabis oil in the AM, and 1 tiny dose of the cannabis oil in the pm, just as Rick Simpson suggests.

What’s going on here?

Why is full THC hemp oil an apparent miracle cure for some and ineffective for others? Unfortunately, there’s zero consistency in terms of what people are actually taking. The illegal nature of the therapy in many places forces people to do the best they can with whatever material they can obtain.

As far as cancer alternatives, all I know for sure is what worked for me: Black salve (bloodroot) cured occurrences of basal cell carcinoma on my body. SunSpotES cured occurrences of basal cell carcinoma on my body. The medical industry has unleashed a jihad against black salve and, to a lesser extent, Lane Labs, the makers of SunSpot ES. The PSYOP against black salve is one of the most vicious that I’m aware of on any topic, including 9/11. In my experience, the main differences between black salve and SunSpotES is that the SunSpotES costs more, goes slower and is much less painful than black salve.

That’s the extent of my personal, first hand knowledge of successfully curing cancer with alternative therapies.

You don’t know a lot about what goes on behind the scenes with my private contacts with people, but Cryptogon readers are dying of cancer, right now, as you’re reading this. The medical industry is as full of quacks as the alternative side. So, let’s just focus on what has worked for you, or what has worked for someone that you know in real life.

Update: Rick Simpson’s Response to Tommy Chong Situation

I went over to Rick Simpson’s Facebook page and posted the following comment:

Hello Rick,

I was wondering if you had any thoughts on Tomy Chong’s prostate cancer situation?

He just stated on his podcast:

http://sideshownetwork.tv/shows/tc/3357

“I went on CNN and I announced to the world that I was going to cure it with pot, with hemp oil. And I want to tell you that after three months of using hemp oil, it hasn’t done a god damned thing. In other words, it’s not working. So, back to the drawing board.”

Thank you,
Kevin

Rick Simpson (or someone with admin control of that page) responded. Here is what was posted:

Look, I told him what to do but he did not listen and I doubt he did the treatment properly. Too much work and business, you know, why would he take the time off and do the treatment right from day 1? I also don’t know who he got the oil fr
om and whether the oil was made exactly according to our instructions.

I don’t think he took it three times a day, certainly not 60g as instructed, I’d say judging by how played with it in the beginning instead of doing it right. I think he just took some oil at night and thought it is enough. No, it is not.
And I doubt he ever ate a gram of high grade oil a day. I also doubt he took suppositories with the oil, as he was told.

That’s what you get when you do not follow the instructions. The medical system has nothing better to offer and if he goes their way, he will get killed sooner or later and the oil will be blamed. Up to him.

He should do the treatment properly and eat another 60g or more, with no experiments like he did. And definitely no surgeries or ultrasound, it is not necessary.

The way I look at it, he did not take the treatment properly. To me he is just another guy who thought he can do it ‘his way’, which he did. Plus, I don’t know what his doctors told him and if he got his PSA readings from at least two sources in one day – he would not be the first one to get false data from them.

Anyway, it is up to him what he does. I would continue to pound the oil in me three times a day, plus I would use the oil in suppositories. Dennis Hill cured his prostate cancer with very low doses of the oil, and there is no reason why it should not work for Chong. Unless he is not doing something right. JB

U.S. Median Income Lowest Since 1995

September 13th, 2012

Via: Financial Times:

The median income of American households dropped to its lowest level since 1995 last year, extending its decline during President Barack Obama’s tenure and highlighting the depth of the damage to the middle class inflicted by the recession and weak recovery.

According to annual data from the Census Bureau, median income adjusted for inflation – a closely watched measure of the financial health of average Americans – fell to $50,054 in 2011, or 1.5 per cent below its 2010 level and 4.1 per cent below its score when Mr Obama took office in 2009.

U.S. Marines Headed to Libya

September 13th, 2012

Via: AP:

When the Pentagon called out the Marines on Wednesday and dispatched them to Libya, it wasn’t the first wave of an invading force.

Instead, the 50 Marines are part of an elite rapid-response team and they were sent to assess and reinforce security in Libya in the aftermath of the attack in Benghazi that killed the U.S. ambassador there and three other Americans.

Known as a Fleet Antiterrorism Security Team, or FAST, the team’s role is to respond on short notice to terrorism threats and to bolster security at U.S. embassies. They operate worldwide, and the team that went is one of two that are based in Spain.
