BBC Hit Piece a Tissue of Lies, Bias and Emotional Manipulation

February 20th, 2007

I didn’t even see the bucket of bollix, and I don’t plan on seeing it either. Reading about it was enough for me.

I can’t do the 9/11 official story vs. conspiracy thing anymore. Anyone who thinks those towers came down the way the official government story says they did is either clinically nuts, or in on the scam. It’s one or the other.

But if you’re still keeping track, after all this time, here are some point by point takedowns of this nonsense put out by the BBC:

Children’s TV ‘Is Linked to Cancer, Autism, Dementia’

February 20th, 2007

And some people think Becky and I are weird for not having a TV in the house?

Via: Scotsman:

IT HAS long been blamed for creating a nation of couch potatoes. But a new report today claims that Britain’s love affair with television is causing far more damage – both physically and psychologically – than previously thought.

The findings have been compiled by Dr Aric Sigman, a psychologist who has previously written about the effects of television on the viewer. His report, analysing 35 different scientific studies carried out into television and its effect on the viewer, has identified 15 negative effects he claims can be blamed on watching television.

Among the most disturbing findings are the links he claims to have found between long hours of television viewing and cancer, autism and Alzheimer’s.

The effects on children watching TV have been well publicised in Britain. Fears of a timebomb of obesity have sparked a wave of ministerial initiatives to promote sport and tackle the couch-potato lifestyle.

However, today’s report suggests the consequences of television are far more serious. They range from myopia and attention deficit disorder to diabetes, autism, Alzheimer’s and a generation whose brains are being numbed by on-screen imagery.

His report, published in the respected Biologist magazine, claims the problem with television lies in the length of time we spend in front of the set. For most people, watching television now takes up more time than any other single activity except work and sleep. According to the British Audience Research Bureau, by the age of 75 the average Briton will have spent more than 12 years of their life watching television.

Dr Sigman, an associate fellow of the British Psychological Society and author of Remotely Controlled: How Television Is Damaging Our Lives, said arguments over how educational programmes are were a distraction. He said: “The medical studies I have looked at are about the medium of television, irrespective of the programmes children are watching. It is the number of hours and the age at which they start which produces the biological effects. It is because of the medium, not the message, that these effects are occurring.”

Dr Sigman’s research draws from studies by groups including the American Academy of Paediatrics, Cornell University, Stanford University Medical Centre, the British Market Research Bureau and medical publications such as the Lancet and the Journal of Sleep Research.

The stage for the harm Dr Sigman believes television is doing is being set, he claims, by the vast amounts of it we watch – by the age of six, a child will already have spent one year in front of the television. When time in front of a computer is added, the psychologist claims watching a screen of some kind is the dominant activity for older children – those aged 11 to 15 now spend 55 per cent of their waking lives, or seven and a half hours a day, watching television and computers. According to today’s report, that represents a 40 per cent rise in a decade.

Traumatized U.S. Soldiers Being Treated in ‘Virtual Iraq’

February 19th, 2007

Obviously, we only get to read the public relations version of the supposedly beneficial uses of the technology. But what is being done in the military crypts, labs and dungeons with this technology?

Via: AFP:

Traumatized US soldiers are being treated for post-war psychological disorders by going out on patrol in a computer-generated “virtual Iraq,” experts told a conference.

Skip Rizzo, a psychologist at the University of Southern California, has helped create a program that simulates life in the war zone for Iraq veterans suffering from conditions such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

The ground-breaking treatment allows soldiers to experience the sights, sounds and even the smells of a war-zone, courtesy of wrap-around goggles linked to a startlingly realistic virtual world.

The idea is to re-introduce veterans to the experiences that have inflicted mental scars until gradually they are no longer haunted by the memories, a long-established therapeutic technique known as “exposure therapy.”

“What we do is put somebody in a virtual Iraq but at a level where initially there will be minimal anxiety,” Rizzo said at the American Association for the Advancement of Science’s annual meeting.

“Say for example their trauma event was being blown up in a Humvee — we might start them off just standing in the desert next to a Humvee.

“Gradually we would put them in the Humvee and have them start driving down a desert road. Eventually over the course of the therapy you introduce elements that increase the realism — bombs going off, things blowing up.

“It’s a gradual exposure to a realistic environment which you can’t really do just through imagination.”

Soldiers undergoing the treatment can be placed in a variety of situations — either as the passenger, driver or gunner in an armored vehicle or as a soldier on a foot patrol walking through an Iraqi city.

“You could be walking down one street and a child will come up to greet you, you could be walking down another street and a car explodes,” Rizzo said.

The virtual Iraq experience is designed to be completely immersive.

Fake aromas — including gunpowder, burning smoke, diesel fuel, body odors, exotic spices and roast mutton — are wafted under the patient’s nose.

The boom of bombs is simulated by giant speakers placed under the patient’s chair. “If you’ve ever stopped at a set of traffic lights and a kid has pulled up next to you playing rap music and you can feel your car shaking — it’s the same principle,” Rizzo said.

The realism of the graphics has impressed patients, Rizzo said. “We’ve have had people ask us in certain situations ‘Is that real or is that video?’,” Rizzo said.

Texas: SWAT Team Murdered Unarmed Teenager as He Lay in Bed

On Tuesday, the Wharton Police Department in Texas shot a 17-year old boy, Daniel Castillo Jr. to death. The SWAT team was serving a search warrant looking for drugs after the police allegedly witnessed a drug deal take place at the residence. According to the family, Castillo was unarmed and asleep when the SWAT team burst into his bedroom door and killed him.

Prosecutors Seek OK to Create Phony Files

Florida’s prosecutors are floating a proposal to the Legislature to give them the power to secretly falsify public court records — with a judge’s approval — for undercover law enforcement purposes.

Spurred by Miami-Dade State Attorney Katherine Fernández Rundle, the draft bill would limit the authority to manufacture and plant fake documents in court files to 180 days. But it also provides for an unlimited number of 30-day extensions.

Natural Gas Storage with Material Derived from Corncob Waste

February 17th, 2007

Via: Sietch Blog:

The National Science Foundation reports of a very interesting breakthrough. Using corncob waste as a starting material, researchers have created carbon briquettes with complex nanopores capable of storing natural gas at an unprecedented density of 180 times their own volume and at one seventh the pressure of conventional natural gas tanks.

This corncob “sponge” will allow for the storage of methane, a natural gas derived from rotting bio-waste. With this new technology comes the possibility of using waste methane from cow manure, food waste, heck even human waste to power your car.

Supported by the National Science Foundation (NSF) Partnership for Innovation program, researchers at the University of Missouri-Columbia (MU) and Midwest Research Institute (MRI) in Kansas City developed the technology. The technology has been incorporated into a test bed installed on a pickup truck used regularly by the Kansas City Office of Environmental Quality.

The briquettes are the first technology to meet the 180 to 1 storage to volume target set by the U.S. Department of Energy in 2000, a long-term goal of principal project leader Peter Pfeifer of MU.

“We are very excited about this breakthrough because it may lead to a flat and compact tank that would fit under the floor of a passenger car, similar to current gasoline tanks,” said Pfeifer. “Such a technology would make natural gas a widely attractive alternative fuel for everyone.”

Modified Bedini Cole Window Motor

UPDATE: Bedini Shows Mike Motor Is a Fraud

John Bedini wrote that Mike must have hidden a 9v battery in the switch:

The Final Word – 2007/02/28 23:46 Everybody,

Here is the final word from ME!!!

I have spent all day duplicating every variation of Mike’s circuit and SS Relay switch. I did find a curious inductive current loop but I was not able to run the motor or produce Mike’s waveforms with it.

Rick is uploading the video we just shot of the “Mike duplication” tape to the Yahoo Bedini_Window_Energizer group. You may view it there.

The bottom line is, Mike cheated!!! The only way to get the motor to duplicate Mike’s performance is for there to be a hidden 9 volt battery in the SS Relay box. The system works just the way Ossie said it would, with the capacitor rising to about 6 volts.

You can stop it, short out the cap, and restart the motor in either direction.

Sorry everybody. Mike’s demo was a fraud and I am done with this project.

John
(with Peter and Rick)

There you have it for now. I’ll continue to monitor the situation for any substantial developments.

– – – – –

The rotor is started by hand. Not only does the rotor accelerate, the device charges a capacitor. It’s using a Bedini-type circuit. I’ve been keeping an eye on this for a couple of days, waiting for the punchline, but instead of going away, interest is snowballing. I know a couple of you guys are builders, so I’m posting this for whatever it’s worth.

The project is totally open source. If you want to work on a replication, go for it. This PES Wiki page is a central repository for key info. The builder, Mike, is remaining anonymous for the moment, but he’s holding nothing back, in terms of the design, and is trying to help others get their machines going.

Here’s a higher quality version of the clip below:

Note: I love the hostility that posts like this bring out in some people. I can talk about lunatic religions all day and never raise an eyebrow. But point to stories that cause people to question things written in science text books and… woooooh: The spit and hair are going to fly. The level of certainty that some people derive from their high school physics class is as stupid and hilarious to me as a good ole’ down home Southern Pentecostal revival meeting. It’s tough to know which is more entertaining: some “expert” rambling about thermodynamics, or snake handlers in West Virginia.

Mummified Body Found in Front of Blaring TV

February 17th, 2007

A blind man died gazing at the television.

Via: Reuters:

NEW YORK (Reuters) – Police called to a Long Island man’s house discovered the mummified remains of the resident, dead for more than a year, sitting in front of a blaring television set.

The 70-year-old Hampton Bays, New York, resident, identified as Vincenzo Ricardo, appeared to have died of natural causes. Police said on Saturday his body was discovered on Thursday when they were called to the house over a burst water pipe.

“You could see his face. He still had hair on his head,” Newsday quoted morgue assistant Jeff Bacchus as saying. The home’s low humidity had preserved the body.

Officials could not explain why the electricity had not been turned off, considering Ricardo had not been heard from since December 2005.

Neighbors said when they had not seen Ricardo, who was diabetic and had been blind for years, they assumed he was in the hospital or a long-term care facility.
