Chicago Mayor Johnson Moves Toward City-Run Grocery Stores
September 17th, 2023Via: Jonathan Turley:
When Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson (D) ran for office, he was propelled to victory by a growing socialist movement allied with the Democratic Party. The Socialist movement has elected a record number of socialists in Congress. However, Johnson now has one of the largest American cities to implement such policies with the support of the far left teacher’s union. Years ago, I wrote how a delegation of the union went to Venezuela and heaped praise on the murderous regime’s “progress.” Now Johnson appears to be moving toward a pilot program with great significance for socialist supporters: state-run grocery stores.
I am admittedly no fan of Johnson. I love Chicago where I was born and raised. However, rising taxes and crime had led many to leave, particularly businesses. This includes grocery chains. Walmart, Walgreens, Aldi are just some of the companies closing stores.
Johnson’s solution is telling. Rather than address the underlying conditions, he is suggesting a solution that has failed historically — government-run stores. Indeed, the failure in dealing with crime and hostile business environments has allowed socialist activists to realize a major new socialist agenda item.

Tiny Italian Island Overwhelmed By 7,000 Migrants Arriving In Small Boats Within 24 Hours
September 17th, 2023Via: ZeroHedge:
After years of a surge in migrant attempts to make it from the Mideast-North Africa region which goes back to at least 2015, which was a record year for such crossings, this week witnessed a truly unprecedented first.
Starting Wednesday and continuing through the end of the week, a giant flotilla of ramshackle boats packed with mostly African migrants surrounded and inundated the tiny Italian island of Lampedusa, off Sicily. AP reporters described that it happened almost in a “procession” and shocked tourists and locals alike.
Scenes on Thursday into Friday showed chaos erupting given the tiny island only has a population of about 6,500 people, and the number of migrants arriving by boat within only a 24 hour period has been tallied at around 7,000.
Armed Man Impersonating U.S. Marshal Arrested at RFK Jr. Event
September 16th, 2023Update: Armed Man Impersonated U.S. Marshal at Robert Kennedy Jr. Campaign Event, Police Say
Police detained, but did not arrest, “A second man who arrived with Aispuro and had a backpack containing a handgun, multiple knives and extra ammunition.”
Via: Los Angeles Times:
A man was arrested at a Robert F. Kennedy Jr. campaign event in Los Angeles on Friday after he allegedly impersonated a U.S. Marshal while carrying a loaded gun, police said.
The event took place at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre in the 4400 block of West 8th Street, where Kennedy was giving a speech to mark Hispanic Heritage Month by discussing the need for “a comprehensive policy to secure the border and ease immigration pressure,” according to a news release.
The man appeared at a side entrance to the theater, claimed to be part of Kennedy’s security team and told personnel that he needed to be taken to the candidate immediately, Kennedy’s team said in a subsequent news release. Security guards detained him and called police, the release said.
Police received a radio call at about 4:30 p.m. reporting a man with a loaded gun, a shoulder holster and a badge that stated he was a U.S. Marshal, said J Chavez, public information officer with the Los Angeles Police Department. The man did not brandish a gun or threaten anyone, he added.
The man was arrested and taken to Wilshire Station, then booked on suspicion of a felony charge of carrying a concealed firearm, Chavez said. Police identified him as Adrian Paul Aispuro, 44. He remained jailed Saturday in lieu of $35,000 bail, booking records state.
Kennedy’s team said that police also took custody of a second man who arrived with Aispuro and had a backpack containing a handgun, multiple knives and extra ammunition. Police said they had no record of a second arrest.

Kennedy said his security identified the man and apprehended him until Los Angeles Police arrived.
“I’m very grateful that alert and fast-acting protectors… spotted and detained an armed man who attempted to approach me at my Hispanic Heritage speech at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre in Los Angeles tonight,” Kennedy posted on social media.
Los Angeles Police confirmed that a man was arrested for posing as a federal agent at the event. The department said the man did not brandish the weapon or threaten anyone at the event.
Tesla Achieves Breakthrough in Single-Piece Car Casting
September 14th, 2023Via: Electrek:
Tesla has achieved a breakthrough in making Hot Wheels-like single-piece car casting a reality, according to a new insider report.
In recent years, Tesla has heavily invested in large casting technology to produce vehicle bodies in just a couple of large parts rather than hundreds.
The automaker now operates several of the world’s largest casting machines, which it often refers to as “Gigapress.”
CEO Elon Musk has often referenced how he has been inspired by Hot Wheels toy cars being made in a single cast piece and hinted that he would like Tesla cars to eventually be made like that.
However, Tesla has already pushed the limits of casting technology to be able to produce the rear and front casting on Model Y and had a new 9,000-ton press made to produce Cybertruck parts.
But now a new report claims that Tesla has achieved “a series of innovations to make a technological breakthrough” to “die cast nearly all the complex underbody of an EV in one piece.”

Canada: Peel District School Board Removes All Books Published Before 2008 From School Libraries To Ensure, “Books Are Inclusive”
September 14th, 2023If you’re curious where this kind of insanity can wind up, read about Pol Pot.
Year Zero is an idea put into practice by Pol Pot in Democratic Kampuchea that all culture and traditions within a society must be completely destroyed or discarded and that a new revolutionary culture must replace it starting from scratch. In this sense, all of the history of a nation or a people before Year Zero would be largely deemed irrelevant, because it would ideally be purged and replaced from the ground up…
Year Zero was effectually an attempt by the Khmer Rouge to erase history and reset Cambodian society to a zeroth year, removing any vestiges of the past.

Harry Potter, The Hunger Games and Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry.
Those are all examples of books Reina Takata says she can no longer find in her public high school library in Mississauga, Ont., which she visits on her lunch hour most days.
In May, Takata says the shelves at Erindale Secondary School were full of books, but she noticed that they had gradually started to disappear. When she returned to school this fall, things were more stark.
“This year, I came into my school library and there are rows and rows of empty shelves with absolutely no books,” said Takata, who started Grade 10 last week.
She estimates more than 50 per cent of her school’s library books are gone.
In the spring, Takata says students were told by staff that “if the shelves look emptier right now it’s because we have to remove all books [published] prior to 2008.”
Takata is one of several Peel District School Board (PDSB) students, parents and community members CBC Toronto spoke to who are concerned about a seemingly inconsistent approach to a new equity-based book weeding process implemented by the board last spring in response to a provincial directive from the Minister of Education.
They say the new process, intended to ensure library books are inclusive, appears to have led some schools to remove thousands of books solely because they were published in 2008 or earlier.
Parents and students are looking for answers as to why this happened, and what the board plans to do moving forward.
…
Dianne Lawson, another member of Libraries not Landfills, told CBC Toronto weeding by publication date in some schools must have occurred in order to explain why a middle school teacher told her The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank was removed from shelves. She also says a kindergarten teacher told her The Very Hungry Caterpillar had been removed as well.
Blinken OKs Attacks On Russia With U.S. Missiles
September 13th, 2023Via: Antiwar:
Secretary of State Antony Blinken said Sunday that it was up to Ukraine whether or not to target Russian territory with US-provided weapons, a policy that brings the US and Russia closer to a direct clash.
Blinken made the comments after ABC News reported that it’s likely the Biden administration will soon arm Ukraine with Army Tactical Missile Systems (ATACMS), which have a range of up to 190 miles.
While appearing on ABC’s ‘This Week,’ Blinken was asked if he was OK with Ukraine using ATACMS to hit targets deep inside Russian territory. “In terms of their targeting decisions, it’s their decision, not ours,” Blinken replied.
‘Alien Corpses’ Shown to Mexican Congress [???]
September 13th, 2023My best guess is that this is some sort of scam, perhaps a distraction from something else happening with the topic.
Via: Independent:
Alleged “non-human” alien corpses have been displayed to Mexican politicians at the country’s Congress.
The two small alleged alien corpses, retrieved from Cusco, Peru, were presented in windowed boxes in Mexico City on Wednesday, stirring excitement within the UFO conspiracy theorist community.
The event was spearheaded by journalist and ufologist Jaime Maussan, who testified under oath that the mummified specimens are not part of “our terrestrial evolution”, with almost a third of their DNA remaining “unknown”, reported Mexican media.
The claims by the self-claimed ‘ufologist’ have not been proven and Mr Maussan has previously been associated with claims of discoveries that have later been debunked.
