Facebook: “Are you concerned that someone you know is becoming an extremist?”
July 2nd, 2021Via: Information Liberation:
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg on Thursday had his company send out Orwellian messages warning some users that they “may have been exposed to harmful extremist content” and telling others to rat out their friends and family if they suspect they’re “becoming an extremist.”
“You may have been exposed to harmful extremist content recently,” one message states. “Violent groups try to manipulate your anger and disappointment. You can take action now to protect yourself and others.”

Diabolical Rumsfeld Finally Dies
July 1st, 2021Via: Guardian:
Donald Rumsfeld’s name will forever be associated with the biggest military fiasco in US history, the 2003 invasion of Iraq in pursuit of non-existent weapons of mass destruction, alongside the widespread use of torture that has dogged America’s reputation ever since.
It is not just the poor decisions he made as defence secretary for which Rumsfeld will be remembered, but also his efforts to cover up inconvenient facts that did not align with his version of reality.
Documents surfaced after the invasion that showed that Rumsfeld was quite aware of the gaping holes in the intelligence about Iraqi WMD, but he consistently presented the claims to the public as if they were cast-iron certainties.
He also played down the growing insurgency against the US-led occupation after Saddam Hussein’s fall, dismissing the collapse of law and order in Baghdad with the insouciant phrase “stuff happens”, which would go on to haunt him for the rest of his life.

Hackers Exploited 0-Day, Not 2018 Bug, to Mass-Wipe My Book Live Devices
June 29th, 2021Via: Ars Technica:
Last week’s mass-wiping of Western Digital My Book Live storage devices involved the exploitation of not just one vulnerability but a second critical security bug that allowed hackers to remotely perform a factory reset without a password, an investigation shows.
The vulnerability is remarkable because it made it trivial to wipe what is likely petabytes of user data. More notable still was that, according to the vulnerable code itself, a Western Digital developer actively removed code that required a valid user password before allowing factory resets to proceed.

“The vendor commenting out the authentication in the system restore endpoint really doesn’t make things look good for them,” HD Moore, a security expert and the CEO of network discovery platform Rumble, told Ars. “It’s like they intentionally enabled the bypass.”

North Korean Defector Explains ‘Woke’ Culture in America
June 28th, 2021Many years ago, a friend of mine would not mention his PhD on his CV. I asked him why he did that. He said, “Outside of academia, it’s like dipping yourself in shit.”
I wonder: Will undergrad degrees come to indicate a similar kiss of death to employers?

New Zealand: “Over Time, Requiring People to Scan Would Become Part of Everyday Life”
June 28th, 2021Mmm hmm.
Via: New Zealand Herald:
The Government is considering mandatory QR scanning in “high-risk” locations such as bars and restaurants, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern says.
Cabinet has commissioned advice on the move after daily scans fell from a high of two million every day at the height of the pandemic in New Zealand to a low of just over 400,000.
Over time, requiring people to scan would become part of everyday life, much like showing ID in a bar, Ardern said at today’s post-Cabinet press briefing.
