U.S. Northern Command Sets Up Task force for Los Angeles Mission
June 9th, 2025Via: Task and Purpose:
U.S. Northern Command stood up a formal task force on Sunday to coordinate the U.S. military’s deployments into Los Angeles County.
The announcement from the command clarifies several details left vague on Saturday when President Donald Trump and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced they were sending National Guard troops into Los Angeles.
“As USNORTHCOM’s land component command, U.S. Army North stood up Task Force 51, with a two-star general, as the ground command and control element over the Title 10 forces,” NORTHCOM’s announcement said.
NORTHCOM confirmed that roughly 2,000 California National Guard soldiers were under federal control as part of the task force.
…
NORTHCOM also confirmed that roughly 500 Marines from 2nd Battalion, 7th Marines, based out of the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center in Twentynine Palms, California are “in a prepared to deploy status should they be necessary to augment and support” the federal military mission. Hegseth had previously said on Saturday that 500 Marines from Camp Pendleton were on standby.

Update: 101 Freeway Shutdown, Police and Waymo Vehicles Burned as Rioting Escalates
Via: Daily Mail:
Los Angeles is under siege as protesters set fire to driverless cars and authorities rain down a hail of rubber bullets on demonstrators as they march against President Donald Trump’s crackdown on illegal migrants.
Horrifying scenes showed Waymo cars erupting into flames and emitting toxic gases as rioters chained themselves to furniture and created blockades to grind Downtown Los Angeles to a complete halt on Sunday night as violence stretched into a third day.
Trump sent in 2,000 National Guard troops and placed 500 Marines on standby, while the LAPD has authorized the ‘use of less lethal munitions’ to regain control of the city.

Update: Heavy Military Presence Seen in Downtown Los Angeles After Days of Immigration Protests
Via: KTLA:
A heavy military presence was seen in downtown Los Angeles early Sunday morning after unrest sparked by ICE raids in the L.A. area and ahead of what is expected to be a third day of protests.
President Donald Trump ordered thousands of National Guard troops to be deployed Saturday night after a raid in Paramount earlier in the day that set off a chain of destructive demonstrations. Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, however, said just after midnight Sunday that the National Guard had not been deployed in the city.
Military personnel began arriving at the Federal Building in downtown around 4 a.m. Sunday to ensure that federal agents are protected. More have been deployed to the Hall of Justice, next to City Hall.

The Trump administration said it would send 2,000 National Guard troops into Los Angeles after a second day in which protesters confronted immigration agents during raids of local businesses.
The move marks a major escalation in Trump’s crackdown on illegal immigration and came amid concerns from some officials in California.

Top Researchers Leave Intel to Build RISC-V Startup
June 6th, 2025I wonder what computer hardware will be like a decade from now…
(Assuming, of course, that the machine overlords let us meatsacks have computers of our own by then.)
Via: The Oregonian:
Together, the four founders of Beaverton startup AheadComputing spent nearly a century at Intel.
They were among Intel’s top chip architects, working years in advance to develop new generations of microprocessors to power the computers of the future.
Now they’re on their own, flying without a net, building a new class of microprocessor on an entirely different architecture from Intel’s. Founded a year ago, AheadComputing is trying to prove there’s a better way to design computer chips.
“AheadComputing is doing the biggest, baddest CPU in the world,” said Debbie Marr, the company’s CEO.
…
RISC-V, pronounced “Risk-five,” is especially inviting to startups because it’s an open technology, overseen by a consortium of tech firms. Unlike processors based on x86 or ARM designs, there’s no licensing fee to use RISC-V.
AheadComputing maintains that open standards are the future for microprocessors, giving technology companies more opportunity to customize chip designs to suit their specific needs.
It will be years before AheadComputing’s designs are on the market, but it envisions its chips will someday power PCs, laptops and data centers. Possible clients could include Google, Amazon, Samsung or other large computing companies.
Netanyahu Arming ISIS-Aligned Jihadis In Gaza, Israeli Defense Sources Confirm
June 6th, 2025Via: ZeroHedge:
At the direction of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the State of Israel is arming an ISIS-aligned Jihadist gang in Gaza, unnamed Israeli defense officials confirmed to the Times of Israel on Thursday. While refraining from validating that particular characterization of the weapon recipients, Netanyahu confirmed that Israel is “activating clans in Gaza that oppose Hamas.” Significantly, the prime minister is accused of green-lighting the weapon handovers without securing his cabinet’s permission.
News of Netanyahu’s latest provision of aid to Sunni extremists in the Middle East first came via remarks made by opposition Knesset member and former defense minister Avigdor Lieberman in a Thursday morning interview with Kan Bet public radio. “The Israeli government is giving weapons to a group of criminals and felons, identified with Islamic State, at the direction of the prime minister…Ultimately, these weapons will be turned against us.”

Britain: Downing Street ‘Exploring Plan for Digital ID Cards’
June 6th, 2025Via: Independent:
Downing Street is exploring a proposal to introduce digital ID cards for every adult in Britain in a move to tackle the UK’s illegal migration crisis, according to reports.
The new “BritCard” would be used to check on an individual’s right to live and work in Britain, with senior No 10 figures examining the proposal, The Times has reported.
The card, stored on a smartphone, would reportedly be linked to government records and could check entitlements to benefits and monitor welfare fraud.
The scheme’s supporters think it would send a clear signal that the UK is not “soft touch” on illegal migration and would help ease the small boats crisis.
The idea was one of former prime minister Tony Blair’s flagship policies in Downing Street, but it was killed off after he lost power.

AI Datacenter in Texas Will Have Its Own 1.2GW Gas Power Plant
June 5th, 2025Data Center Executives Pivot Toward Onsite Power:
In November, data center leaders said they expected approximately 30% of all data center sites to use some onsite power as a primary energy source supplemental to the grid by 2030, 2.3 times more than just seven months earlier.
The report noted there were more data center announcements featuring onsite power in 2024 than the previous four years combined.
“We were surprised by the pace of change and the growing expectation that onsite power generation will play a greater role in powering data center projects,” reads the Bloom Energy report.
Data center leaders also expect power availability to get worse.
Via: CloudBurst:
It will be powered by an on-site, Behind-the-Meter natural gas-fired power plant. CloudBurst has signed a long-term contract with Energy Transfer, LP (NYSE: ET) that will enable the Data Center and power plant to be developed in phases up to a capacity of 1.2GW. The gas pipeline runs through the site and is operated by Energy Transfer’s Oasis Pipeline, LP. It will provide up to 450,000 MMBtu per day of firm natural gas supply.
Construction on the Data Center campus is expected to start in Q2 2025 with completion of the first phase in Q3 of 2026.

75th Anniversary Edition of ‘1984’ Contains Trigger Warning
June 5th, 2025Via: The College Fix:
It what may be one of the great ironies of the last couple of years, the 75th anniversary edition of George Orwell’s classic “1984” comes with a trigger warning in its introduction.
Courtesy of Dolen Perkins-Valdez, who according to her website has “established herself as a pre-eminent chronicler of American historical life” and teaches literature at American University, the intro makes note that “there are no Black characters at all” in the novel.
For a “contemporary reader” such as herself, Perkins-Valdez (pictured) says this gives her “pause.” She also says a “sliver of connection” is difficult with a book that “does not speak much to race and ethnicity.”
