Johnson, Trump Announce Election Integrity Bill To Require Proof Of Citizenship To Vote
April 15th, 2024Definitely. Make sure non-citizens aren’t voting in federal elections. Great!
— cryptogon (@cryptogon) April 15, 2024
But unless the voting machine issue is dealt with, it’s all just pissing in the wind.
Here is the only type of electronic voting system that should be allowed:
– Open source hardware and software.
– Cryptographic process generates one unique ballot for each verified eligible voter; only on election day, only at a polling place.
– Hard copy of unique filled-in ballot generated for voting officials and voter while votes are added to public blockchain.
– The rest of the details don’t matter because no major political party in the U.S. wants to eliminate vote fraud.
But, by all means, keep foreigners from voting on voting machines running closed source hardware and software (which could be doing anything), if it makes you feel better.

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) and former President Donald Trump are urging support for a bill aimed at preventing non-citizens from voting in federal elections.
At a Friday, April 12, press conference at the former president’s Mar-a-Lago residence, the Republican leaders announced the bill as part of larger efforts to bolster election integrity.
“What we’re going to do is introduce legislation to require that every single person who registers to vote in a federal election must prove that they are an American citizen first,” Mr. Johnson said.
Though some jurisdictions allow noncitizens to participate in local elections, it is illegal for them to vote in all state and federal elections. However, the United States’ federal voter registration form does not require documentary proof of citizenship, and states’ efforts to impose such a requirement have been challenged by the Biden administration.
The new legislation, the speaker said, would establish new safeguards to ensure only citizens can vote. The provisions would require states to remove noncitizens from their voter rolls and would provide them with access to Department of Homeland Security and Social Security Administration databases to help them do so.
“Congress has this responsibility. We cannot wait for widespread fraud to occur … especially when the threat of fraud is growing with every single illegal immigrant that crosses that border,” the speaker said.
He added that he expected the bill to receive widespread Republican support while also forcing Democrats to go on record with where they stand.

Iran Seizes Cargo Ship in Strait of Hormuz After Threats to Close Waterway
April 13th, 2024Months ago, I called these low probability scenarios:
1) If the Strait of Hormuz somehow winds up closed/blocked.
2) If Saudi Aramco’s deep water port at Ras Tanura somehow winds up closed/destroyed.
And now…

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards seized an Israeli-linked cargo ship in the Strait of Hormuz on Saturday, days after Tehran said it could close the crucial shipping route and warned it would retaliate for an Israeli strike on its Syria consulate.
Iran’s state-run IRNA news agency reported that a Guards helicopter had boarded and taken into Iranian waters the Portuguese flagged MSC Aries, saying it was linked to Israel.

Israel Lets AI Decide Who Dies in Gaza
April 12th, 2024Via: The Libertarian Institute:
The Israeli military has employed yet another AI-based system to select bombing targets in the Gaza Strip, an investigation by +972 Magazine has revealed. The new system has generated sweeping kill lists condemning tens of thousands of Palestinians, part of the IDF’s growing dependence on AI to plan lethal strikes.
Citing six Israeli intelligence officers, the Tel Aviv-based magazine said the previously undisclosed AI system, dubbed ‘Lavender,’ has played a “central role in the unprecedented bombing” of Gaza since last October, with the military effectively treating its output “as if it were a human decision.”
“Formally, the Lavender system is designed to mark all suspected operatives in the military wings of Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ), including low-ranking ones, as potential bombing targets,” the outlet reported, adding that “during the first weeks of the war, the army almost completely relied on Lavender, which clocked as many as 37,000 Palestinians as suspected militants—and their homes—for possible air strikes.”
However, while thousands have been killed in the resulting air raids, the majority were “women and children or people who were not involved in the fighting,” the officers told the magazine, noting that Israeli field commanders often rely on the AI system without consulting more substantial intelligence.
Crime-Ridden San Francisco Seeks To Allow Lawsuits Against Grocery Stores Fleeing The City As Mass Corporate Exodus Continues
April 12th, 2024Via: Benzinga:
San Francisco has long been feared to be falling into a doom loop, a situation where taxpayers leaving the crime-ridden city results in lower tax revenues leading to cuts in services and rising taxes, making it even less desirable to live in.
It can be especially devastating when a community’s essential businesses, such as grocery stores, decide to leave.
…
Dean Preston, another member of the Board of Supervisors, recently introduced a proposal called the Grocery Protection Act, which would require a closing store to provide the city six months’ notice and try to find a replacement supermarket for the location it’s vacating.
Elaborating on his proposal, Preston said, “Our communities need notice, an opportunity to be heard and a transition plan when major neighborhood grocery stores plan to shut their doors.”
According to the proposal, anyone impacted by a non complying grocery store could initiate legal proceedings.

U.S. House Votes to Re-Authorize Law that Allows Warrantless Surveillance of Citizens
April 12th, 2024Via: Guardian:
House lawmakers voted on Friday to reauthorize section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, or Fisa, including a key measure that allows for warrantless surveillance of Americans. The controversial law allows for far-reaching monitoring of foreign communications, but has also led to the collection of US citizens’ messages and phone calls.
Lawmakers voted 273–147 to approve the law, which the Biden administration has for years backed as an important counterterrorism tool. An amendment that would have required authorities seek a warrant failed, in a tied 212-212 vote across party lines.
Pfizer Is ‘Deeply Sorry’ for Making Misleading Statements When Promoting Covid Vaccine
April 12th, 2024Via: Telegraph:
Pfizer has been accused by the UK’s pharmaceutical watchdog of “bringing discredit” on the industry after senior executives used social media to promote an “unlicensed” Covid vaccine.
The company has been found to have breached the regulatory code five times, which also includes making misleading claims, failing to maintain high standards and promoting unlicensed medicines.
A ruling by the pharmaceutical watchdog, the Prescription Medicines Code of Practice Authority (PMCPA), relates to a complaint about a message posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, in November 2020 by senior Pfizer employees.
The complaint raised concern about Pfizer’s “misuse of social media to misleadingly and illegally promote their Covid vaccine”, according to the ruling.
