Submarine Missing Near Titanic Used a $30 Logitech Gamepad for Steering

June 20th, 2023

Update: “Catastrophic Implosion”:

A deep-sea submersible carrying five people on a voyage to the century-old wreck of the Titanic was found in pieces from a “catastrophic implosion” that killed everyone aboard, the U.S. Coast Guard said on Thursday, ending a multinational five-day search for the vessel.

While relying on a consumer grade wireless gaming controller in a life or death situation seems like an act of breathtaking madness, my guess is that the Logitech gamepad wasn’t the problem here. I use a Logitech USB keyboard that cost me around $20 over fifteen years ago for all my PC repair work. It will probably outlive the cockroaches.

On Sunday, news broke about an OceanGate Expeditions tourist submarine headed for the wreck of the Titanic that went missing with five people aboard. Soon after, details emerged about the sub’s non-standard design that did not meet regulations, including steering apparently handled by a $30 Logitech F710 wireless PC game controller from 2010.

Plea Deal for Hunter Biden

Via: New York Post:

A chorus of Republican lawmakers raced Tuesday to condemn Hunter Biden’s plea agreement, in which the first son appears poised to avoid jail time for alleged tax and firearm violations.

As part of the deal, the 53-year-old will plead guilty to misdemeanor counts of willful failure to pay federal income tax for 2017 and 2018 and enter a pre-trial diversion on a felony gun possession charge, meaning that charge could be dropped if he meets certain requirements, per court documents filed in Delaware.

“We are Restricting Freedom … for the Common Good”: Irish Green Party Calls For Limiting Free Speech

June 19th, 2023

Via: Jonathan Turley:

The Irish Green Party followed many on the left around the world, including our own Democratic Party, this week and came out for censorship and speech controls. Indeed, the party went full Orwellian as its chairwoman Pauline O’Reilly called for “restricting freedom” to protect it.

Limiting free speech has become an article of faith for many on the left. I have written about my distress (as someone who grew up in a liberal, politically active Democratic family in Chicago) in watching the abandonment of free speech values by the party. Democratic leaders now uniformly call for censorship and speech regulations. President Biden even charged that companies who refused to censor opposing views on social media were “killing people.” Others have denounced free speech as “a white man’s obsession.”

Britain: Teacher Scolded Pupil for Rejecting Classmate’s Claim That She Identified as a Cat

June 19th, 2023

Via: Daily Mail:

A ‘woke’ teacher has come under fire after telling a pupil she should ‘go to a different school’ for rejecting a classmate’s claim that she identified as a cat.

The pupil said she was made to stay after class by the teacher, who can be heard in a secret recording calling her view that gender is binary ‘really despicable’ and ‘very sad’.

In the three-and-half-minute recording, the angry teacher, who the Mail is not naming, said they would report the girl to a senior colleague, and she needed a ‘proper educational conversation about equality, diversity and inclusion’.

The FBI Groomed a 16-Year-Old With “Brain Development Issues” to Become a Terrorist

June 18th, 2023

Via: The Intercept:

Last week, the Department of Justice announced the arrest of a teenager in Massachusetts on allegations of providing financial support to the Islamic State group.

A flurry of reports picked up on the arrest of Mateo Ventura, an 18-year-old resident of the sleepy town of Wakefield, echoing government claims that an international terrorist financier and ISIS supporter had just been busted in the United States. The Department of Justice’s own press release on the case likewise trumpeted Ventura’s arrest for “knowingly concealing the source of material support or resources that he intended to go to a foreign terrorist organization.”

The only problem with the case and how it has been described, however, is that according to the government’s own criminal complaint, Ventura had never actually funded any terrorist group. The only “terrorist” he is accused of ever being in contact with was an undercover FBI agent who befriended him online as a 16-year-old, solicited small cash donations in the form of gift cards, and directed him not to tell anyone else about their intimate online relationship, including his family.
