U.S. Military: Extend Citizenship to Foreigners for Service to American Empire
December 26th, 2006Standard operating procedure for all empires…
I kinda wondered what the endgame was going to be for the illegal immigration situation in the U.S. (This ENDGAME just didn’t do it for me.) I’m not wondering anymore.
Isn’t it amazing how Their plans come together!?
I’d like to believe that immigrants wouldn’t fall for this scam, but, unfortunately, it has worked for thousands of years.
Via: Boston Globe:
The armed forces, already struggling to meet recruiting goals, are considering expanding the number of noncitizens in the ranks — including disputed proposals to open recruiting stations overseas and putting more immigrants on a faster track to US citizenship if they volunteer — according to Pentagon officials.
Foreign citizens serving in the US military is a highly charged issue, which could expose the Pentagon to criticism that it is essentially using mercenaries to defend the country. Other analysts voice concern that a large contingent of noncitizens under arms could jeopardize national security or reflect badly on Americans’ willingness to serve in uniform.
The idea of signing up foreigners who are seeking US citizenship is gaining traction as a way to address a critical need for the Pentagon, while fully absorbing some of the roughly one million immigrants that enter the United States legally each year.

Nigeria: Hundreds of Fuel Scavengers Die in Blast
December 26th, 2006Fuel shortages in Nigeria, one of the most oil rich countries in the world…
Meanwhile, in other news, the CEO of Exxon got a $2.8 million bonus and a raise. And GM squeals about a fuel efficiency law that mandates a pathetic increase in overall mileage of their fleet.
Via: CNN:
At least 200 people were killed outside Lagos, Nigeria, in a massive explosion and fire that ignited as crowds carried away buckets of refined fuel from a tapped fuel pipeline, the Nigerian Red Cross said.
Extreme heat has prevented rescue workers from recovering bodies, and they fear the death toll could rise significantly.
At least 60 others were injured with burns, Nigerian Red Cross Secretary General Abiodun Orebiyi said.
“The explosion happened in a densely populated area, and that is why we’re having these high casualty figures,” Orebiyi added.
The fire burned for nearly 12 hours after the blast, which happened around 1 a.m. local time (7 p.m. ET Monday) before it was brought under control, Orebiyi said.
By Tuesday afternoon, it was still unclear how many people were killed.
“We can see more bodies that have been burned,” he said. “We have yet to determine the number of hundreds that have died in this explosion.”
The blast and fire also damaged 10 buildings and vehicles that were parked at a large garage nearby, Orebiyi said.
Stealing fuel from the country’s pipelines is a common and many times deadly occurrence in Nigeria. In May, at least 150 people died when vandals tried to tap a petrol pipeline outside Lagos.
“People try to siphon fuel from a pipeline, and after that, maybe an hour, a couple hours after that — someone lights a cigarette or a motorcycle engine backfires, and an explosion appears,” CNN’s Jeff Koinange explained.
Despite the country’s oil riches, much of Nigeria’s population suffers from fuel shortages. People often tap into pipelines that cross their lands, seeking fuel for cooking or resale on the black market.
U.S. Beef Contains Dioxin
December 23rd, 2006Yummy!
Via: Yahoo/AP:
South Korea has asked the United States to explain why a shipment of American beef rejected for having banned bone fragments also contained unacceptable levels of the toxic chemical dioxin, an official said Friday.
The discovery was the latest bad news for the U.S. cattle industry in South Korea, already dealing with the rejection of three recent shipments of beef for including banned bone fragments, which South Korea fears could potentially harbor mad cow disease.
Officials said the beef with the dioxin was in the third of the shipments, which was rejected on Dec. 6.
Seoul has asked Washington to explain why the beef contained the dioxin, said a South Korean Agriculture and Forestry Ministry official, who refused to give his name.
Automated Targeting System
December 23rd, 2006Via: Bruce Schneier:
If you’ve traveled abroad recently, you’ve been investigated. You’ve been assigned a score indicating what kind of terrorist threat you pose. That score is used by the government to determine the treatment you receive when you return to the U.S. and for other purposes as well.
Curious about your score? You can’t see it. Interested in what information was used? You can’t know that. Want to clear your name if you’ve been wrongly categorized? You can’t challenge it. Want to know what kind of rules the computer is using to judge you? That’s secret, too. So is when and how the score will be used.
Google Searches Used to Prosecute Hacker
December 23rd, 2006Please don’t think a Google proxy will make you safe. The only way to know you’re in the clear is to use an open wifi connection (preferably at great distance from the base station) with a live CD OS and a spoofed MAC address every time. And wrap your skull with double layers of tinfoil. You can’t be too sure!

What makes this case relevant to “Police blotter” is that Schuster’s own Google searches were used against him.
Court documents say that Schuster ran a Google search over CWWIS’ network using the following search terms: “how to broadcast interference over wifi 2.4 GHZ,” “interference over wifi 2.4 Ghz,” “wireless networks 2.4 interference,” and “make device interfere wireless network.”
Court documents are ambiguous and don’t reveal how the FBI discovered his search terms. That could have happened in one of three ways: an analysis of his browser’s history and cache; an Alpha employee monitoring the company’s wireless connection; or a subpoena to Google from the police for search terms tied to his Internet address or cookie.
Google has confirmed that it can provide search terms if given an Internet address or Web cookie, but has steadfastly refused to say how often such requests arrive.
Waiting for the Government to Save Us?
December 23rd, 2006Worried about savage city people invading your lifestyle block, hobby farm or remote compound?
It’s not going to happen.
In fact, the savage city people who are buying up rural property lately will most likely stay home; in the city.
The reality is that nearly everybody in the cities will stay where they are and do whatever they are told by whatever authority presents itself as “in charge” (government, warlord, armed gang, etc.)
A tiny number of people have been talking about taking action, mostly on the Internet. And most of these people stop short of actually doing anything. This is the limited hangout doomer. “Yes, things are collapsing, but I’ll sit tight in my urban condo and wait for something to actually happen before I do anything,” sums up this logic.
For people like me, my wife and the woman in the article below, low impact, low energy footprint living isn’t some whim or yuppy fad. We would be living like this, collapse or no collapse, Peak Oil or infinite energy. The number of people who want to actually live this way is small. Very small. And I don’t think that collapse will change that number. As things fall apart, most people, not all, but most will beg to suck on the tit of the nanny state. Failing that, ugliness will ensue and warlords and criminals will assume control. Kindof like now, but minus the bullshit.

“To me, what is ironic and even bizarre is that the ideas that were generated by that back to the land movement 30 years ago are steadily being rediscovered and reiterated by the new apocalypse movement: organic farming, locally grown food, alternative energy, conserving energy, getting off the grid, simple living. Only somehow none of these ideas seem to involve actually living on the land where they can actually be implemented and thus they tend to remain just that, ideas.
“Do I think that there will be a new wave of back to the landers? No, and I certainly hope not. I think if something does go wrong, most people will huddle in the suburbs and wait to be rescued by the government.”
Selective Service: This Is Only a Test
December 22nd, 2006With Bush and the enemy collaborator Democrats wanting a larger military…
Also, I like how the technocrat refers to his organization as “our machine.” Nice.
Via: CNN:
The Selective Service System is planning a comprehensive test of the military draft machinery, which hasn’t been run since 1998.
The agency is not gearing up for a draft, an agency official said Thursday. The test itself would not likely occur until 2009.
Meanwhile, the secretary for Veterans Affairs said that “society would benefit” if the U.S. were to bring back the draft and that it shouldn’t have any loopholes for anyone who is called to serve. Secretary Jim Nicholson later issued a statement saying he does not support reinstituting a draft.
The Selective Service “readiness exercise” would test the system that randomly chooses draftees by birth date and the network of appeals boards that decide how to deal with conscientious objectors and others who want to delay reporting for duty, said Scott Campbell, Selective Service director for operations and chief information officer.
“We’re kind of like a fire extinguisher. We sit on a shelf” until needed, Campbell said. “Everyone fears our machine for some reason. Our machine, unless the president and Congress get together and say, ‘Turn the machine on’ … we’re still on the shelf.”
Cryptogon Reader Contributes $20
December 21st, 2006KL sent $20. Thanks KL!
All recent contributions are going toward paying my New Zealand immigration fees! And buying another backup shovel.
I broke the handle on my primary shovel the other day. I wasn’t even working the thing very hard. When it snapped, the handle wasn’t bent much, and it broke cleanly and suddenly away from the blade. I looked at the point of break and noticed bit of dry rot!

Please learn from my mistakes
Oh, what I would give to have the hardened steel and fiberglass shovel I had back in the U.S. If such a shovel can be purchased in New Zealand, I’d buy two of them, almost regardless of price. I might actually look into getting this Nupla shovel imported. It looks like el ultimo.
Having a tool as basic as this break is a serious, “Oh shit!” moment. It’s unthinkable, really. Until it happens. I have a backup shovel, but it’s a similar design, just made out of slightly better materials. It is not sufficient. Please, don’t wait to get your tools.
General Hint on Shovels: If the nose of the shovel is pinned to the handle, just forget it. I’ve broken two shovels, one in the U.S. and one here in New Zealand. Both had blades that were pinned to wooden handles. I’m ready to say “forget it” to wood handled shovels as well. Whatever shovel you buy, choose it like your life is on the line. Then buy two or three of them. The same goes for wheelbarrows.
