Children of Freed Sleeper Agents Learned They Were Russians on the Flight, Kremlin Says

August 2nd, 2024

Via: Reuters:

A family of Russian sleeper agents flown to Moscow in the biggest East-West prisoner swap since the Cold War were so deep under cover that their children found out they were Russians only after the flight took off, the Kremlin said on Friday.

“Before that, they didn’t know that they were Russian and that they had anything to do with our country,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.

“And you probably saw that when the children came down the plane’s steps that they don’t speak Russian and that Putin greeted them in Spanish. He said ‘buenas noches’.”

Among those released were the so-called “illegal” sleeper agents – the Dultsevs, a husband and wife convicted by a court in Slovenia of pretending to be Argentinians in order to spy, who were flown back to Russia with their two children.

Peskov said that while the couple were being held in jail they were given only restricted access to their children, and feared they could lose their parental rights.

“The children asked their parents yesterday who it was that was meeting them (in Moscow). They didn’t even know who Putin was. This is how the ‘illegals’ work. They make such sacrifices out of dedication to their work,” Peskov said.

New York Times Claims Hamas Leader Killed by Bomb Placed Months in Advance

August 2nd, 2024

Via: The Warzone:

In the hours after Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh was assassinated in Tehran on Wednesday, speculation emerged that an Israeli airstrike, missile, or drone attack, among other possibilities, caused the fatal explosion. However, Haniyeh was killed by a bomb smuggled into the guesthouse where he was staying, The New York Times reported.

“The bomb had been hidden approximately two months ago in the guesthouse,” the publication reported, citing five Middle Eastern officials. “The guesthouse is run and protected by the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps [IRGC] and is part of a large compound, known as Neshat, in an upscale neighborhood of northern Tehran.”

Fully-Automatic Robot Dentist Performs World’s First Human Procedure

Via: New Atlas:

Nightmare fuel? Maybe – but in a historic moment for the dental profession, an AI-controlled autonomous robot has performed an entire procedure on a human patient for the first time, about eight times faster than a human dentist could do it.

The system, built by Boston company Perceptive, uses a hand-held 3D volumetric scanner, which builds a detailed 3D model of the mouth, including the teeth, gums and even nerves under the tooth surface, using optical coherence tomography, or OCT.

Intel Is Laying Off Over 15,000 Employees

Update: Intel’s, “Worst Day Ever”

Wrecked.

Via: USA Today:

Intel shares sank nearly 28% on Friday and were set for their worst day ever after the company suspended dividend and slashed workforce to fund a costly turnaround for its chip-making business.

The company was set to lose about $35 billion in market value as its disappointing forecast and planned 15% job cuts raised worries about its ability to catch up with Taiwan’s TSMC and other chipmakers.

Keep in mind, the events leading up to this are in the past. It’s much worse now.

Intel has recently admitted that two generations of CPUs are prone to a power instability issue that can permanently damage the chips:

Intel has announced that it has found the root cause of the crashing issues plaguing its CPUs. The company will issue a microcode update to address the issues by mid-August, ostensibly ending the long-running saga that began when the first sporadic reports of CPU crashing errors surfaced in December 2022 and grew to a crescendo by the end of 2023. Intel’s response comes after complaints about the issue, which causes PCs to inexplicably crash/BSOD during gaming and other workloads, reached a fever pitch in recent weeks. However, the microcode update will not repair impacted processors.

The bug causes irreversible degradation of the impacted processors. We’re told that the microcode patch will not repair processors already experiencing crashes, but it is expected to prevent issues on processors that aren’t currently impacted by the issue. For now, it is unclear if CPUs exposed to excessive voltage have suffered from invisible degradation or damage that hasn’t resulted in crashes yet but could lead to errors or crashes in the future.

Intel advises all customers having issues to seek help from its customer support. Because the microcode update will not repair impacted processors, the company will continue to replace them. Intel has pledged to grant RMAs to all impacted customers.

As the PR disaster snowballs: Intel announces two extra years of warranty amid chip crashing and instability issues — longer warranty applies to 13th- and 14th-Gen Core processors:

Intel told us today that it will extend the warranty on its boxed Intel Core 13th- and 14th-Gen processors by two additional years. Intel’s warranty extension comes as a result of the crashing and instability issues that have plagued its 13th- and 14th-Gen chips for months. Those issues impact all 65W and higher models, meaning the crashes have a widespread impact ranging from the flagship models down to even the pedestrian mid-range chips. Intel’s processors typically come with a three-year warranty period, so the extension will bring the warranty for most boxed processors to five years.

Via: The Verge:

Intel’s on a long, long road to recovery, and over 15,000 workers will no longer be coming along for the ride. The chipmaker just announced it’s downsizing its workforce by over 15 percent as part of a new $10 billion cost savings plan for 2025, which will mean a headcount reduction of greater than 15,000 roles, Intel tells The Verge. The company currently employs over 125,000 workers, so layoffs could be as many as 19,000 people.

Intel will reduce its R&D and marketing spend by billions each year through 2026; it will reduce capital expenditures by more than 20 percent this year; it will restructure to “stop non-essential work,” and it’ll review “all active projects and equipment” to make sure it’s not spending too much.

Argentina Will Use AI to ‘Predict Future Crimes’

August 1st, 2024

Via: Guardian:

Argentina’s security forces have announced plans to use artificial intelligence to “predict future crimes” in a move experts have warned could threaten citizens’ rights.

The country’s far-right president Javier Milei this week created the Artificial Intelligence Applied to Security Unit, which the legislation says will use “machine-learning algorithms to analyse historical crime data to predict future crimes”. It is also expected to deploy facial recognition software to identify “wanted persons”, patrol social media, and analyse real-time security camera footage to detect suspicious activities.

The U.S. National Debt Just Passed $35 Trillion

August 1st, 2024

Via: Yahoo Finance:

The US national debt topped a psychologically important milestone of $35 trillion in recent days and has risen by $1 trillion since January — mounting by nearly $5 billion every day so far in 2025.

This latest barrier was formally pierced last Friday. That’s when a daily Treasury Department tabulation, which was then compiled and released late Monday, showed a gross debt level of $35.001278 trillion.

America’s red ink has now jumped by more than 75% during the Trump and Biden administrations, and yet the issue has been relegated to the back burner during the 2024 campaign season.

Not only that, deficit hawks warn, it’s often been pushed aside in favor of ideas that could increase debt even further.

Video from Trump Assassination Attempt Victim’s POV Shows Figure Moving on Roof Moments Before Gunfire

July 31st, 2024

The counter snipers are cleared to fire to neutralize any threat. They do not need to seek any authorization. If this is the view from the bleachers and the counter snipers were up on rooftops behind the stage, it seems like they must have been told not to fire… Until after it happened.

Also, how much more video is out there? I hope people keep copies of whatever they give to the FBI.

A video from James Copenhaver, one of the victims critically wounded in the July 13 assassination attempt against former President Trump, shows a figure moving across the roof of the American Glass Research (AGR) building just minutes before gunfire rang out at Trump’s rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.

In the video taken at 6:08 p.m. on July 13, the person appears on the roof of the building adjacent to where Trump is speaking and can be seen walking from the 1:00 second mark to about the 2:50 second mark.
