Chinese Spaceplane Has Released Multiple Mystery Objects In Orbit

December 22nd, 2023

Via: The Warzone:

China’s shadowy miniature spaceplane appears to have deployed at least six objects into orbit while conducting its latest mission, its third. The reusable space vehicle, which is understood to be broadly comparable to the U.S. Space Force’s X-37B, clearly has military applications, although the exact nature of its payloads remains mysterious.

The Chinese spaceplane, named Shenlong (meaning Divine Dragon), has placed the objects in Earth orbit since it was launched from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center on December 14.

Synaptic Transistors

December 22nd, 2023

Via: Live Science:

Scientists have designed a transistor that stores and processes information like the human brain and can perform cognitive tasks that most artificial intelligence (AI) systems today struggle with.

This technology, known as a “synaptic transistor,” mimics the architecture of the human brain — in which the processing power and memory are fully integrated and found in the same place.

Self-Checkout Kiosks At 4,500 Walmarts Now Offer ‘Buy Now, Pay Later’ Loans For Basic Items

December 21st, 2023

Via: ZeroHedge:

“Buy now, pay later” (BNPL) loans surged in popularity during Black Friday and Cyber Monday in late November. As Christmas is less than a week away, Walmart shoppers have been greeted with a new BNPL payment at the checkout line. The increased use of BNPL is incredibly problematic for consumers with insurmountable credit card debt and depleted savings.

Affirm Holdings announced Tuesday that its BNPL service has been expanded to self-checkout kiosks at 4,500 Walmart stores nationwide. Customers can purchase electronics, apparel, toys, and many more items (except groceries) by spreading payments out from three months to 24 months.

Colorado Supreme Court Disqualifies Trump From 2024 Ballot, Setting Up Supreme Court Challenge

December 19th, 2023

Via: ZeroHedge:

The Colorado Supreme Court has disqualified Donald Trump from Colorado’s 2024 presidential election ballot, and in a 4-3 ruling has effectively blocked Trump from seeking the presidency because of his role in the Jan. 6 Capitol attack, citing the post-Civil War-era 14th Amendment to the US Constitution that bans insurrectionists from holding public office. The Colorado case was the first constitutional challenge to Trump’s 2024 run to go through a full trial.

Voters, represented by the advocacy group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics, had argued he should be barred from the ballot for inciting the Jan. 6, 2021 attack on the US Capitol.

Colorado’s highest court – whose seven-member bench was entirely appointed by Democratic governors – overturned a ruling from a district court judge who found that Trump incited an insurrection for his role in the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol, but said he could not be barred from the ballot because it was unclear that the provision was intended to cover the presidency.

In its ruling, the Democrat-controlled court found that Trump engaged in insurrection by inflaming his supporters with false claims of election fraud and directing them to the Capitol. The state justices determined that the office of the president is covered under the insurrection clause, which specifically lists those who previously took oaths to support the Constitution as “a member of Congress,” “officer of the United States,” “member of any State legislature” or an “executive or judicial officer of any State.” The district court had previously ruled that the office of the president was not covered under the clause.

Illegal Border Crossings Hit New Record High

December 19th, 2023

Via: Daily Mail:

U.S. apprehensions of migrants at the border hit a new record Monday, with at least 12,600 encounters during a period of just 24 hours.

The stunning spike comes as US Customs and Border Protection announced it would suspend rail operations at a pair of international crossings.

The agency pledged to continue to prioritize its ‘border security mission’ amid a situation it called ‘evolving.’

The latest figures include 11,000 border apprehensions and an additional 1,600 migrants encountered at official points of entry, Fox News reported, based on CBP sources, edging past the prior record of 12,000 two weeks ago.

Texas Republican Rep. Tony Gonzales put the figure even higher, posting about the ‘historic’ numbers on X and saying there were 26,000 border crossers already in custody.

‘Tuesday morning in Eagle Pass. 14,000+ crossed ILLEGALLY yesterday & 26,000+ already in custody – the HIGHEST in US history. Christmas Day will be WORSE. President Biden has abandoned border communities like mine,’ wrote the lawmaker, who represents Hidalgo County.

CBP suspended the freight crossings in Eagle Pass and El Paso, Texas, in order to shift staffing to deal with the surging number of migrants.

The police now say that 41 individual grievances have been settled via confidential settlement, while others were withdrawn or not pursued.

The police withheld any information about what it has cost them.

Pentagon Launches Expansive Naval Coalition To Defend Red Sea Passage

A US-led naval coalition is finally coming together to protect international shipping transit in the Red Sea and vital Bab al-Mandab Strait, per a breaking development from Politico’s chief Pentagon correspondent: “The Pentagon is expected to announce tomorrow the formation of Operation Prosperity Guardian, a new task force to protect shipping from Houthi attacks in the Bab Al-Mandeb Strait and Red Sea, per DOD official,” writes Lara Seligman on X.

“The operation will be within the framework of the existing Combined Maritime Force 153, a partnership of 39 nations focused on counter piracy and counter terrorism in the Red Sea.”

EU Countries Destroy €4 Billion Worth of COVID Vaccines

December 18th, 2023

Via: Politico:

At least 215 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines purchased by EU countries at the height of the pandemic have since been thrown away at an estimated cost to the taxpayer of €4 billion, an analysis by POLITICO reveals. And that’s almost certainly an underestimate.

It’s not easy to discover how many vaccines have been thrown out. Governments, including the EU’s second-most populous country France, are reluctant to reveal the scale of the waste.

POLITICO’s calculations are based on numbers from 19 European countries — 15 that supplied us with direct figures, and four where volumes were reported in local media. Some figures date from as recently as this month; the oldest come from December 2022.

The passage of time means the figures we received are conservative, with the real number of discarded vaccines likely much higher.
